Electrified Panic Devices

We carry electrified panic exit devices with electric latch retraction (EL) from Von Duprin, Sargent, Falcon, and Corbin Russwin for doors requiring both panic egress and electronic outside access control.

What Is an Electrified Panic Exit Device and When Do You Need One?

A standard panic exit device provides code-compliant egress from inside by pushing the push bar. An electrified panic exit device adds electronic control of the outside trim or the latch bolt for credential-based entry from outside. There are two electrification types. EL (Electric Latch Retraction) retracts the latch bolt electronically so the outside trim can operate the door without the latch engaging. The access control panel sends a signal to retract the latch, and the outside lever or pull operates the door.

EL (Electric Latch Retraction) vs. Electrified Trim: What Is the Difference?

EL electrification retracts the latch bolt directly from inside the exit device body. The outside lever or pull can then open the door without engaging the latch. Electrified trim applies power to the outside lever or thumbpiece to control credential-based access while the latch bolt stays engaged until the correct credential is presented. EL is used when the outside trim needs to operate in a push-pull fashion after credentials are validated. Electrified trim is used when the outside lever itself needs to be locked and released electronically.

Key Electrified Exit Device Models

Von Duprin 99EL: EL rim exit device on the 99 Series body. Von Duprin 9927EL: EL surface vertical rod device for paired doors. Von Duprin QEL Series: quiet EL with reduced solenoid noise for libraries, behavioral health, and quiet environments. Sargent 8888EL: EL rim exit device on the 8888 Series body. Pair electrified exit devices with a properly sized exit device power supply rated for the in-rush current requirement.
