About this item
The LCN 4631 is the pull side, top jamb mounted version of the LCN 4630 Auto Equalizer Series automatic door operator. It electrically opens the door to 90 degrees on power-assisted activation, and allows manual opening up to 170 degrees. When someone presses an ADA push pad, wave sensor, or activation button outside the door, the operator swings the door open, holds it for the configured hold-open time, and then closes it via the internal closer mechanism. No manual effort required for ADA accessibility compliance in power mode.
The 4630 Series combines all door operator and door control functions in one package. It replaces both the standard door closer and the separate power operator that a conventional two-component ADA door system would require. The controller module inside allows independent adjustment of eight settings: door opening speed, delay and trigger time for sequential operation, door opening force, electric strike delay time, hold-open time, 90-degree slowdown, alternate action timeout, and safety scanner lockout time. All eight are accessible and adjustable without removing the unit from the door. For all LCN door closers and power operators, browse our door closers catalog.
Low Energy: Why No Guardrails Are Required
Door operators are classified as either low energy or high energy. High energy operators swing a door open at full force and speed, which creates a hazard for pedestrians approaching from outside the opening arc. High energy systems require safety mats, infrared guards, or guard rails to detect and stop the door if a person enters the swing path.
The LCN 4631 is a low energy operator. It opens the door slowly and with limited force, which eliminates the hazard that requires safety equipment. No guard rails. No safety mats. No infrared sensors required for basic operation. This simplifies the installation significantly: the 4631 mounts on the door, wires to 120V, connects to an activation button or sensor, and operates. The lower installation complexity and absence of safety peripheral equipment also reduces the total project cost compared to high-energy system installations.
Fail-Safe: Acts as Standard Door Closer Without Power
When the power goes out, the door doesn't just sit there. The 4631 has a mechanical closer built in, so the door swings shut and latches on its own the same way it would with any standard surface closer. Nothing special needs to happen. No staff member has to close it. No override mode to activate. The power goes off and the door closes. The 4630 Series closer mechanism takes over and the door functions as a standard door closer: it closes and latches automatically under spring tension. No staff intervention required. The fail-safe behavior means the 4631 satisfies fire door close-on-demand requirements even in a power failure scenario.

4631 vs 4642: Pull Side vs Push Side
The 4631 is the pull side mount (top jamb, pull side). The 4642 is the push side mount. Both use the same 4630 Auto Equalizer operator mechanism. The mounting side is determined by the door configuration and the location of the ADA activation button relative to the accessible approach path. Pull side operators are specified when the ADA approach is from the pull side of the door. Push side operators are specified when the ADA approach is from the push side.
