The Accentra Yale 3521 and 3521T are multi-sized surface-applied parallel arm door closers from the Accentra 3000 Series architectural door closer platform, formerly marketed as the Yale 3521. Accentra 3521 Holder/Stop Arm: What the Arm Does and When It Gets Specified

The holder/stop arm on the 3521 and 3521T is a parallel arm with an integrated dead stop built into the soffit plate. The stop is field adjustable to a predetermined open position between 85 degrees and 110 degrees, in 5-degree increments. When the door reaches the set stop position, the closer's backcheck feature slows the door speed before contact, reducing the impact force on the stop. The door then dead stops at the set angle.

This arm is specified on openings where a wall or floor-mounted door stop cannot be installed. Wide corridors, open walls, stone or tile floors where a floor stop cannot be anchored, and doors that swing against projecting furniture or casework all represent common 3521 applications. The holder/stop arm serves the door stop function as part of the closer assembly itself, eliminating the need for a separate stop.

The stop on the soffit plate is removable on the 3521, which allows the closer to also be used in applications where a separate auxiliary door stop will be installed but the parallel arm parallel configuration is still required.

The 3521T adds a hold-open thumbturn at the arm. Activating the thumbturn mechanically holds the door in the open position. This is the correct selection when the opening requires hold-open capability for traffic flow, move-ins, or scheduled open periods, in addition to the dead stop function.

The 3511 is the 3000 Series closer with a hold-open arm. The 3521 uses a parallel arm with integrated dead stop. The 3521 arm combines the stop function into the arm itself, making it the correct choice when no auxiliary door stop can be installed.
