What the Adams Rite 2190 Dual Force Is: Context Required
No buyer can evaluate the EK-2190 without understanding what the 2190 Dual Force actually does. Every competitor page for this kit skips this entirely.
The Adams Rite 2190 Dual Force is an interconnected deadbolt/deadlatch a single lock mechanism that combines a 5/8-inch solid brass latchbolt and a 1-inch stainless steel deadbolt in one case. The outside lever retracts the latch only it cannot retract the deadbolt. The inside lever, when configured with the interconnect feature, retracts both the deadbolt and the latch simultaneously with a single motion. This is the panic-proof exiting design: inside egress always retracts both bolts in one action regardless of whether the deadbolt is projected.
The 2190 is for aluminum narrow stile doors. The 2290 is the same mechanism for hollow metal and wood doors. The EK-2190 electrification kit is compatible with both.

What the EK-2190 Actually Does: The Clutch Mechanism
This is the key operational detail absent from every competitor product page. The EK-2190 adds an electrically controlled clutch to the exterior lever of the Dual Force trim.
In the unelectrified state on a mechanical 2190, the exterior lever always retracts the latch anyone can enter by turning the lever. After the EK-2190 is installed:
When the access control system does NOT send power to the kit, the exterior lever is clutched it rotates freely without retracting the latch. Outside entry is blocked. The lever spins without operating the mechanism.
When the access control system energizes the kit (sends power), the clutch engages the lever to the latch mechanism the exterior lever now retracts the latch and the door opens normally.
This is a fail secure configuration in its default unelectrified state: power off means exterior lever does not operate the latch. Power on allows entry. The deadbolt operates independently by key from outside and by the inside interconnected lever regardless of the electrical state. Inside egress is always available.
12/24VAC/DC and Continuous Duty: Voltage and Operational Mode
The EK-2190 accepts 12-volt or 24-volt power supply in both AC and DC formats 12VAC, 24VAC, 12VDC, 24VDC. The same kit accepts all four. This eliminates voltage specification errors when connecting to different access control panel power supply outputs.
Rated for continuous duty operation. Continuous duty means the solenoid or clutch mechanism can remain energized indefinitely without thermal damage. This is the correct rating for access control applications where the door may be in the "open access" state for extended periods during business hours. This is different from intermittent-duty mechanisms that must not be energized continuously.
Not Compatible with Low Profile Trim: The Critical Exclusion
This is the most important ordering constraint on the EK-2190 and no competitor page explains it. The 2190 Dual Force is available in three trim options:
Standard trim (trim option 1 and 2): For out-swinging doors. The EK-2190 is compatible with standard trim options.
Low profile trim (trim option 3): Designed for in-swinging door applications a lower profile exterior escutcheon that sits closer to the door face. The EK-2190 is NOT compatible with low profile trim option 3. The clutch mechanism in the kit requires the physical space and lever hub geometry of the standard trim set. Low profile trim has a different hub configuration that does not accept the electrification kit.
If your 2190 or 2290 was ordered with low profile trim (trim option 3) for an in-swinging door, the EK-2190 cannot be installed. You would need to replace the lock with a factory-electrified 2190-X01-201 variant instead.
Field Retrofit: When You Need This Kit
The EK-2190 exists for a specific scenario: a building already has Adams Rite 2190 or 2290 mechanical (non-electrified) locks installed with standard trim, and the building owner or security director wants to add access control without replacing the entire lock.
Ordering a new 2190 or 2290 with factory electrification (the -201 model suffix) is the preferred method for new installations. The EK-2190 is the field solution when:
The existing mechanical 2190/2290 with standard trim is already installed and functioning correctly the lock body, cylinder, strike, and faceplate are all in place. Only the exterior trim set needs the electrical clutch added. The EK-2190 installs into the exterior clutched lever of the existing standard trim without replacing the lock case or faceplate.

2190: Adams Rite Dual Force for narrow stile aluminum doors. 1" x 6-7/8" faceplate, backset options 31/32", 1-1/8", and 1-1/2". Retrofits to existing MS1850S deadbolt or 4500/4900 deadlatch of the same backset.
