Electric Strike Filler plates for selected Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu numbers
An electric strike filler plate is the cover plate installed in a door frame after an electric strike has been removed, replaced, or when a door is being converted back from electric access control to a standard mechanical lockset operation. When an electric strike is removed from a door frame, it leaves behind a cut-out in the frame that is larger and differently shaped than a standard strike plate. A regular ANSI curved lip strike won't cover that void. The electric strike filler plate closes that opening cleanly, conceals the old electric strike pocket, and restores the door frame to a finished appearance without requiring frame repair or replacement.
This category covers the Don-Jo AF Series electric strike filler plates, compatible with selected Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu electric strike numbers. Two frame cut-out sizes are available in two finish options.
What Is an Electric Strike Cover Plate Used For?
Removing an Electric Strike After a System Change
Access control systems get upgraded, replaced, or decommissioned. When an electric strike is pulled from a door frame as part of a system replacement and the new hardware doesn't occupy the same frame pocket, the old cut-out is left exposed. A standard strike plate won't cover an electric strike cut-out because the electric strike pocket is both wider and deeper than a standard latch strike opening. The Don-Jo AF Series electric strike filler plate fills the specific profile left by Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu strikes and matches the frame face cleanly.
Converting Back to Standard Door Hardware
On tenant improvement projects, building renovations, and security system downgrades, doors that were previously access-controlled are sometimes converted back to standard cylindrical or mortise locksets. The electric strike filler plate is the correct accessory for this conversion. It covers the electric strike frame pocket and includes the standard latch strike prep, so the latch bolt from the new standard lockset engages correctly through the filler plate.
Don-Jo AF Series: Two Sizes, Two Finishes
4-7/8" x 1-1/4" Electric Strike Filler Plates
The smaller AF Series plates cover the standard 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" electric strike cut-out. This is the size used when the removed electric strike occupied a frame pocket equivalent to a standard ANSI strike footprint. These plates are manufactured from 13-gauge (.095) steel and are available in two finishes.
The AF-260-SL and AF-261-SL are the silver coated versions in the 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" size. Silver coated finish matches aluminum frame profiles and painted steel frames in lighter finishes. The AF-260-DU and AF-261-DU are the duro (dark bronze) coated versions in the same 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" size. Duro finish matches dark bronze anodized aluminum frames, dark bronze painted hollow metal frames, and darker architectural frame finishes.
9" x 1-3/8" Electric Strike Filler Plates
The larger AF Series plates at 9" x 1-3/8" cover the longer electric strike cut-out used on Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu strikes that occupy a deeper, longer frame pocket. The longer plate is needed when the removed electric strike had a larger frame footprint than a standard ANSI latch strike.
The AF-29-SL, AF-291-SL, and AF-291L-SL are the silver coated versions in the 9" x 1-3/8" size, covering different Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu model footprints respectively. The AF-29-DU, AF-291-DU, and AF-29L-DU are the duro coated versions for the same 9" size footprints in darker frame finishes.
How to Choose the Right Electric Strike Filler Plate
The first step is identifying which electric strike was installed in the frame. The model number of the removed Folger Adams, Von Duprin, or Rofu strike determines which AF plate dimension and model to specify. If the frame cut-out is approximately 4-7/8" tall and 1-1/4" wide, the AF-260/261 series in the standard size is correct. If the frame cut-out is 9" tall and 1-3/8" wide, the AF-29/291 series in the long size is correct.
The second decision is finish. Silver coated (SL) matches light aluminum and painted steel frames. Duro coated (DU) matches dark bronze anodized and dark painted frames. On hollow metal doors and frames that will be repainted after hardware removal, either finish can be used since the plate will be painted over.
Von Duprin Strike Plate and Folger Adams Strike Plate Compatibility
A question that comes up on every access control retrofit project is whether a standard strike plate can cover the hole left by a Von Duprin electric strike or a Folger Adams electric strike. The answer is no. Standard ANSI curved lip strikes, including the Don-Jo MST-261 and similar plates, are sized for the standard latch pocket and will not cover the electric strike cut-out, which is dimensionally different in both width and depth.
The Don-Jo AF Series plates are engineered specifically for the frame cut-out dimensions of the Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu electric strikes they're designed to replace. They include the standard latch strike prep so the mechanical lockset installed after the conversion has a proper strike to engage.

Frequently Asked Questions About Electric Strike Filler Plates
Q: What is an electric strike filler plate?
A metal cover plate that fills the frame cut-out left after an electric strike is removed. Covers the void and includes standard latch strike prep for new mechanical hardware installation.
Q: Will a standard ANSI strike plate cover an electric strike cut-out?
No. Standard latch strike plates are dimensioned for the standard latch pocket, which is smaller than an electric strike frame cut-out. A dedicated electric strike filler plate is required.
Q: What are the two sizes of Don-Jo AF Series electric strike filler plates?
Two sizes available:
-
4-7/8" x 1-1/4" (AF-260/261 Series)
-
9" x 1-3/8" (AF-29/291 Series)
Size depends on the removed electric strike model footprint.
Q: What is the difference between the SL and DU finish on Don-Jo AF plates?
SL = Silver Coated. Matches light aluminum and painted steel frames. DU = Duro Coated (dark bronze). Matches dark bronze anodized and dark painted frame finishes.
Q: Do electric strike filler plates include a latch strike opening?
Yes. Don-Jo AF Series plates include the standard latch strike prep, allowing the new mechanical lockset latch bolt to engage through the filler plate.
Q: Which electric strike brands are these plates compatible with?
Don-Jo AF Series plates are designed to cover frame cut-outs left by selected Folger Adams, Von Duprin, and Rofu electric strike model numbers. Match the AF plate to the specific removed strike model.
