Sargent 8800 Series: The Grade 1 Lever Lock for Sargent-Standard Campuses
The Sargent 8800 Series is Grade 1 under ANSI A156.2 and the cylindrical lever specification for Sargent-standard campuses. Available in all standard commercial function codes from passage to classroom to storeroom, with every standard ANSI finish. Lever designs coordinate with the Sargent 7300 and 7800 Series mortise hardware for single-brand hardware schedules. For a full hardware schedule from one manufacturer, Sargent lever locks pair with Sargent 8800 Series exit devices, Sargent door closers, and Sargent cylinders throughout.
Sargent 8800 Series vs. 7800 Series: Grade 1 vs. Grade 2
The 8800 Series is Grade 1 — the institutional specification for K-12 schools, hospitals, universities, and government buildings. The 7800 Series is Grade 2 for light commercial, multi-family residential, and corporate interior applications. Both series use the same lever design catalog for visual consistency across a project specifying both grades. If the spec requires Grade 1 documentation on a submittal, specify 8800 Series.
Sargent Key Systems: LA and LC Keyways
Sargent lever locks use LA keyway (standard Sargent commercial) or LC keyway cylinders as standard. Sargent SFIC prep is available for facilities on Sargent IC masterkey programs. If the facility uses BEST SFIC, Schlage SFIC, or Arrow SFIC, confirm the IC prep format before ordering — the housing dimensions are the same but keyways and core profiles differ. When Does the Hardware Schedule Call for Sargent vs. Schlage?
Campus standardization drives the answer. A university that has installed Sargent hardware for decades stays on Sargent because of the existing masterkey program and parts inventory. For new projects with no existing standard, both Schlage ND Series and Sargent 8800 Series are Grade 1 at comparable price points.
