The Cal-Royal C-880 is a silicone rubber adhesive weatherstrip backed with genuine 3M adhesive tape, designed for sealing gaps around commercial and residential door frames. This is a peel-and-stick door weather seal that installs without tools, without screws, and without channel hardware. The 3M adhesive tape backing provides commercial-grade initial tack and long-term holding power on wood frames and hollow metal frames alike, making the C-880 the correct specification when a fast, reliable perimeter seal is needed without structural modifications to the door or frame.
Gap Sealing Performance
The C-880 seal begins compressing at 1/4 inch. It compresses to seal gaps down to 1/16 inch. This compression range makes it the right weatherstrip for standard door frame clearances where air infiltration, dust, light, and insects are passing through the perimeter gap around the door stop. The D-profile silicone bulb conforms to irregular frame surfaces and maintains contact with the door face across the full compression range without splitting or taking a permanent set.
Silicone Rubber Construction and 3M Adhesive
The weatherstrip body is silicone rubber, not foam or EPDM. Silicone is the correct material for this application because of its temperature stability across an extreme range. The C-880 handles continuous exposure from -58 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. That temperature range covers outdoor door installations in cold climates, doors near HVAC equipment, and commercial kitchen or industrial facility doors where ambient temperatures swing well beyond what foam or vinyl weatherstripping can handle without degrading.
The silicone formulation is non-toxic, self-extinguishing, and resistant to sunlight, ozone, oxidation, weather, water, and flames. It won't absorb moisture, won't support mildew or fungus growth, and won't degenerate under normal outdoor or indoor exposure conditions. This is 3M silicone weather stripping tape that doesn't require primer, activator, or heat application. Peel the liner, position the strip on the door stop face, press firmly, and it's done.
Installation: Wood and Hollow Metal Frames
The C-880 is compatible with both wood door frames and hollow metal door frames. The 3M adhesive tape bonds to painted steel, bare steel, aluminum, and painted or finished wood without special preparation on clean, dry surfaces. No pilot holes, no fasteners, no tools. On a standard 36-inch by 84-inch door, the three-strip set covers both hinge jamb, strike jamb, and head stop in a single installation session.
Size and Finish Options
The C-880 is available in two sizes to match standard commercial door openings: 36" x 84" for single standard door frames and 48" x 96" for wider or taller door applications. Finish options are Black and White to match the door stop finish on the project. Black is the correct specification for dark bronze, oil rubbed bronze, and dark painted frames. White matches painted white frames and hollow metal frames finished in standard white primer.
Applications
The C-880 is specified on commercial and institutional door frames in office buildings, schools, multi-family residential lobbies, retail storefronts, government facilities, and industrial buildings. It's also widely used on residential exterior and interior doors where the existing weatherstripping has failed or is missing and a no-modification replacement is needed. Because it requires no screws or channels, it won't interfere with fire-rated door assemblies in the same way that screw-on systems can compromise the rated assembly preparation.
