About this item
The Glynn Johnson 104S is a concealed overhead door stop for doors 33-1/16 to 39 inches wide. The concealed overhead design installs in the door head and door frame header, invisible from both sides of the door when the door is open or closed. No floor stop to trip over. No wall stop to miss. No surface hardware to kick, scratch, or remove. The stop mechanism travels overhead, inside the door and frame, and physically limits how far the door can open at the point it's set.
This is a Stop-Only model. The "S" in 104S means the unit stops the door at the selected opening position and absorbs the impact energy when the door reaches it. It does not hold the door open in a fixed position. The 104H is the Hold-Open version, which hooks the door at the set position and holds it until someone manually closes it. Because this unit does not hold fire doors open, the 104S Stop-Only model is approved for use on fire-rated door assemblies. Door Opening Range and Mounting Flexibility
Templates included with the 104S allow variable mounting positions with door opening settings from 85 degrees to 110 degrees. The door is measured from its open position: at 90 degrees the door is perpendicular to the frame; at 110 degrees it's opened further toward the wall. The template positions the jamb bracket and door arm so the stop engages at the desired opening point within that range.
The 104S works on all standard hinge types: conventional butt hinges, pivot sets, continuous hinges, swing-clear hinges, and specialty hinges. Single-acting and double-acting doors. Interior and exterior applications. Non-handed. The unit works alongside most surface-applied door closers to provide controlled opening limit with the closer still controlling closing speed.
104S Configuration Codes: What They Mean
Hardware schedules written by architects and hardware consultants use Glynn Johnson's alphanumeric configuration codes to specify the exact unit with appropriate mounting hardware package. The configuration codes commonly specified for the 104S include:
104S-C09D210C, 104S-C12DJ210C, 104S-C23D210BC, 104S-C30EJ210C, and 104S-C72D210C. Each code identifies the mounting configuration (the letters and numbers after "C") and the hardware package (the "210" series designation). The prefix identifies the model as a 104S stop-only concealed overhead device. The suffix identifies the specific angle bracket, sex nut set, and mounting hardware included in the package. If your hardware schedule specifies one of these codes, this is the 104S product family.

104S vs 104H: Stop-Only vs Hold-Open
The 104H is the hold-open version in the same 100 Series concealed overhead line. When the door opens to the set position, the 104H hooks it in place and holds it open until someone manually closes it. The 104S (this product) absorbs the opening impact and limits door travel but does not hold the door in the open position.
On fire-rated doors, use the 104S Stop-Only. Fire code prohibits manually holding fire doors in the open position; the 104S does not hold open. On non-fire-rated openings where the door needs to hold itself open (a vestibule entrance, a corridor pass-through, a frequently used service door), the 104H is the correct specification.
100 Series Door Width Range
The Glynn Johnson 100 Series concealed overhead stop and hold-open models are sized by door width. The 101S/101H covers the smallest door widths; 104S/104H covers 33-1/16" to 39" doors; 105S/105H covers 39-1/16" to 45" doors; 106S/106H covers 45-1/16" to 51" doors. Confirm door width before ordering. Installing an undersized or oversized unit on the wrong door width creates incorrect stop geometry and premature wear.
