About this item
The PDQ MR116 is the Entry function mortise lock in PDQ's MR Series J trim configuration, Grade 1, built to outlast every major competitor's warranty by a significant margin. The Schlage L Series and Corbin Russwin ML2000 carry grade 1 certification. The PDQ MR116 carries grade 1 certification plus a lifetime limited warranty and cycle test results that exceed the ANSI/BHMA A156.13 250,000-cycle Grade 1 standard by more than twelve times. That's over 3,000,000 cycles on the test bench - and PDQ is still counting.
For institutions, government buildings, healthcare facilities, and commercial properties where the hardware budget is real but repeat replacement isn't acceptable, that warranty and cycle count tell a different story than the standard Grade 1 certification that every competitor also carries.
Entry Function - ANSI F04
The Entry function (ANSI F04) operates as follows. Both levers operate the latch freely in the unlocked state. A toggle on the inside face of the lock case locks and unlocks the outside lever - inside lever always remains free for egress. When the outside lever is locked by the toggle, a key from outside still retracts the latch for entry. An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed, preventing latch retraction by shimming or tool insertion between the door and frame.
This is the standard office entry function: inside staff controls outside access via the toggle, key-holders can always enter from outside. For all PDQ mortise locks and commercial locksets, browse our mortise locks catalog.
Case Construction: 12-Gauge Cold Rolled Steel
The MR Series lock case is 12-gauge cold rolled steel, dichromated for corrosion resistance. Most commercial mortise lock cases use lighter gauge steel or cast zinc components. 12-gauge cold rolled is thicker and harder than standard commercial mortise case construction - the same material specification used in high-security and institutional lock cases.
The latchbolt is investment cast stainless steel with an anti-friction tip. The deadbolt is also investment cast stainless steel. Both are 3/4-inch and 1-inch throw respectively - investment cast stainless, not brass, not zinc die cast. The armor front is beveled 1/8-inch in 2 inches with stainless steel base material in 625 and 630 finishes.
Single Cam for All Locking Functions
The MR Series uses a single universal cam design across all lock functions. One lock case, one cam mechanism, works for Entry, Storeroom, Classroom, Privacy, and every other MR function. For facilities managers stocking spare parts across a large door hardware installation, this matters: one case replacement covers any function in the building rather than function-specific inventory.
J Series Trim: Seven Lever Styles, Three Escutcheon Options
The J Series trim uses stainless steel escutcheons. Seven lever styles are available: Philadelphia (PHL), Dallas (DAL), Memphis (MEM), Orlando (ORL), Miami (MIA), Boston (BSN), and Chicago (CHI). PHL, MEM, MIA, and BSN are solid levers. ORL, DAL, and CHI are tube levers.
The EW wide escutcheon complies with Unified Facilities Guide Specification 08 71 00, making the MR116 specifiable on federal government projects requiring that specific escutcheon width standard.
The trim configuration code on the order form identifies the full lever/escutcheon combination. OJSJ = ORL Lever, J Trim, SJ Round Rose. PJSJ = Philadelphia Lever, J Trim, SJ Round Rose. Confirm the trim code against the hardware schedule before ordering.
