PHI Precision 2103 Apex Rim Exit Device - Wide Stile

The PHI Precision 2103 is the rim exit device in the Precision Apex 2000 Series, wide stile configuration. It's the architectural-grade exit device that shows up on hardware schedules for hospitals, university buildings, government facilities, and institutional main entrances - the applications where a stamped steel exit device doesn't meet the aesthetic or durability standard the architect and owner require.

The base material on the Apex 2000 is heavy wrought brass, bronze, or stainless steel across all visible components: the cover, touch bar, device channel, lock-side and hinge-side fillers, and end cap. The chassis is investment cast steel, zinc dichromated. The latchbolt is 3/4-inch throw stainless steel with a deadlocking plunger. This is different from most commercial exit devices where the visible components are aluminum extrusions or stamped steel with a painted finish. The Apex's material specification is the reason it carries a price point above the standard commercial range and why architects specify it by name.

Field-Selectable Functions: One Device, Six Options

The 2103 ships with function "03" standard, but the same device body is field-convertible to five additional functions without replacing the unit: 2101, 2102, 2103, 2105, 2114, and 2115.

Function 2101 is exit-only - no outside trim, door exits from inside, pull-only from outside or no outside access. Function 2102 has key retracts latch from outside. Function 2103 (standard) has key control of the outside trim - the key locks and unlocks the outside lever or pull. Function 2105 has the outside lever always active for free passage. Wide Stile: What It Means and Why It Matters

The 2103 wide stile version is designed for doors with wide stile frames - the vertical members on aluminum storefront systems, heavy hollow metal frames, and architectural entrance door systems. Standard-stile exit devices fit narrow vertical members. The wide stile device body is sized and reinforced to span the wider stile without the trim plate bridging an unsupported gap.

The 2103 covers ANSI A115.2 (Type 161 door prep), A115.18 cylinder lock prep, and A115.1 (Type 86 mortise lock prep). This range of prep compatibility means the 2103 installs on doors prepared for any of these standard commercial preps without additional door modification.

Door widths covered: 36-inch bar for doors 2'-7" to 3' wide. 48-inch bar for doors 3'-1" to 4' wide. Both are field-cuttable if the net door width falls between standard sizes.

Outside Trim: Separately Ordered from Parts and Accessories

The 2103 ships as the inside device only. Outside entry requires separate trim from the Parts and Accessories section on this page. Lever trim is the 4900 Series (four lever designs: A, B, C, D) in four function configurations - dummy, key retracts latch, key controls lever, lever always active. Pull trim is the 1700 Series in grip and thumbpiece configurations with the same four function options.

Standard hex key dogging holds the touchbar depressed for free passage periods. Cylinder dogging (2103CD) is available as a separate model when key-controlled dogging is required. Dogging is not available on the fire-rated FL2103 - fire doors must self-close and latch on every cycle.
