Why 10" Height Instead of Standard 8"

The standard commercial kick plate height is 8". A 10" kick plate extends the protected zone an additional 2" up the door face, which matters in applications where cart traffic, wheelchair footrests, or equipment movement regularly contacts the door above the standard 8" level. Hospitals, food service facilities, institutional kitchens, and school corridors with heavy cart traffic are all applications where the 10" height is specified over 8" for additional coverage. If foot traffic is the primary concern and cart or equipment contact is not a factor, an 8" plate covers the impact zone adequately. For applications with high cart or equipment impact, 10" provides meaningful additional protection without moving into armor plate territory.
