The Sargent 6275 is the factory original 6-pin single section key blank from Sargent Manufacturing Company, an ASSA ABLOY Group company, sold in the standard box of 50. It's the blank specified for conventional Sargent cylinder key systems and masterkey projects running Sargent's multiplex keyway families. The 6275 series covers the full range of Sargent single-section keyways including the L, H, and R families. Specify the two-letter keyway suffix when ordering: 6275LA, 6275RB, 6275HC, or whichever section your cylinder system runs.
What "Single Section" Means in the Sargent System
In the Sargent multiplex keyway system, every section falls into a hierarchy. A single section key blank only passes cylinders cut to the exact same plug section. A key cut on a 6275LA blank will operate only in cylinders bored with the LA section. It will not pass cylinders bored in LB, LC, or any other section, even within the same family.
This is intentional. Single section blanks are what individual keyholders carry. Each person on a masterkey project gets a key cut on their specific single section blank. A key cut on the master section blank (sold separately) passes all individual sections within that family. This separation is what enables the masterkey hierarchy: individual keys are cut on single section blanks, master keys are cut on master section blanks, and the cylinder accepts both because of how the plug sections nest within the master section geometry.
The LA Keyway and Other Common Sections
The LA keyway is the standard keyway on most Sargent commercial cylindrical and mortise locks. When specifiers say "Sargent LA key blank" or "Sargent key blank" without a suffix, they almost always mean 6275LA. The LD master section operates cylinders with LA, LB, and LC plug sections. The RD master section operates cylinders with RA, RB, and RC. The HD master section operates cylinders with HA, HB, and HC.
Available single section keyways for the 6275 include: HA, HB, HC, HE, HF, HG, HJ, HK, HL in the H family; LA, LB, LC, LE, LF, LG, LJ, LK, LL in the L family; and RA, RB, RC, RE, RF, RG, RJ, RK, RL in the R family. Confirm the section letter of your cylinder before ordering. If you're unsure, inspect the key currently in service, which is typically stamped with the section designation.
Material and Dimensions
The 6275 is manufactured from nickel silver, which is a nickel-copper-zinc alloy harder and more dimensionally stable than brass. Factory key blanks for commercial masterkey systems are cut from nickel silver specifically because the tighter tolerances and better wear characteristics are needed for keys that pass through high-security cylinders hundreds of times. The 6-pin blank is 2-1/4" in overall length. The 5-pin version (6270 series) is 2" long. Do not confuse the two series when specifying.
Factory Original vs Aftermarket
The 6275 is a factory original Sargent ASSA ABLOY key blank, not an aftermarket duplicate. On a masterkey system, using factory original blanks ensures the section profile is dimensionally identical to the cylinders on the project, which matters for both function and security. Aftermarket blanks cut to nominally the same section can vary enough to reduce key control integrity on restricted or patented keyway systems.
