About this item
The 386NL is the night latch option: ANSI function 03, key retracts latchbolt. A rim cylinder on the outside trim is the only way to operate the latch from the outside corridor. Turn the key, the latch retracts, the door opens. Remove the key, the trim is locked again for the next approach. There's no toggle state, no push button to unlock the lever, no freewheel mode. The door requires a key every single time someone needs to enter from outside. Inside, the panic push pad always allows free egress without a key.
The 386NL includes an escutcheon pull handle on the outside. The outside trim has the key cylinder position and the pull as a single integrated unit. A rim cylinder is not included and must be ordered separately. Americanlocksets.com offers the Ilco 7075SC10 rim cylinder in Schlage C keyway as a factory-installed option. What the 33A and 35A Series Are
The 33A is Von Duprin's narrow stile push pad exit device, one of the most widely installed exit device lines in commercial construction. It fits door stiles as narrow as 1-3/4" (44mm), which makes it the correct specification for hollow metal doors, narrow stile aluminum doors, and any opening where a wider push pad device won't fit. Grade 1 to ANSI/BHMA A156.3, with a deadlocking 3/4" throw latch bolt and a device centerline height of 39-13/16" from the finished floor.
The 35A is the heavier-duty variant in the same series. Mechanically and dimensionally compatible with 33A trim, with additional finish options including finish 619. Both the 33A and 35A are available as rim (33A, 35A), surface vertical rod (3327A, 3527A), and concealed vertical rod (3347A, 3547A) configurations. The 386NL trim fits all of them.

Night Latch vs. Other 386 Trim Functions
The 386 trim family for the 33A/35A Series has two standard functions. The 386NL (this product) is a night latch: key required every time from outside to retract the latch bolt. Provides maximum key control at the outside of the door. The 386DT is dummy trim: provides an outside pull when the exit device is dogged in the retracted position, but has no cylinder and no latch control function. For openings where outside key control isn't required and outside access is provided only when the device is dogged, the 386DT is the correct specification. For night latch with a cylinder-only trim (no pull handle integrated), the 388NL is the alternate option with the pull as a separately orderable component.
Handing Note
The 386NL is a handed trim: handing must be specified at time of order. RHR (Right Hand Reverse) mounts on doors where hinges are on the right when approaching from outside (the pull/outside face). LHR mounts where hinges are on the left when approaching from outside. The 33A/35A exit device body is non-handed. Only the outside trim is handled. Ordering incorrect handing is the most common error on exit device trim orders and requires a return.
