About this item
The Accentra 1193 is a Large Format Interchangeable Core (LFIC) rim cylinder designed for exit device trim and rim lock applications. If you searched "1193/6", "ka1193", "#1193", "1193l ","1193 ", or "yale rim cylinder"- this is the product. Accentra is the current brand name for what was sold for decades as Yale commercial hardware under ASSA ABLOY. The 1193 model number, specifications, and core compatibility all carry forward directly from the Yale catalog. Same housing, same core format, same exit device trim compatibility- new name on the label.
What a Rim Cylinder Is and Where the 1193 Gets Used
A rim cylinder is a cylinder format that mounts through the door from the outside face with a tailpiece projecting through to the inside mechanism. Unlike a mortise cylinder that threads into a lock case, a rim cylinder uses a mounting plate and is held in place by screws from the inside. The tailpiece operates the device's outside trim- retracting the latch when a key is turned.
The Accentra 1193 is specifically designed for exit device trims and mullions. It's the correct cylinder specification when the exit device trim requires an LFIC rim cylinder for outside key access. If the trim function calls for key retracts latchbolt, key controls lever, or any keyed function on the outside, the 1193 provides the cylinder that operates it. Compatible with most exit device trim or devices requiring rim cylinders across major manufacturers.
LFIC: Large Format Interchangeable Core
The 1193 ships as an LFIC rim cylinder- Large Format Interchangeable Core. The core is the removable plug inside the housing that contains the keyway and pin stacks. In an LFIC system, you remove the core with a control key and replace it with a new combinated core to rekey the cylinder without disassembling any hardware.
LFIC is Schlage's and Yale's primary IC format. It is physically larger than SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) used by BEST and Falcon. The two formats are not interchangeable. If your facility runs Yale/Schlage LFIC, the 1193 is the correct specification. If it runs BEST SFIC, a different cylinder model is required.
0-Bitted: What It Means and Why It Matters
The 1193 ships 0-bitted. All cuts are at the zero depth- the key blank is uncut. An uncut, 0-bitted cylinder will not operate with any standard key. It requires combinating (cutting) to a specific key cut before it functions. 0-bitted cylinders are specified when the integrator or locksmith will combinate the cylinder in the field to match an existing key system, or when a combinated core from the Yale/Accentra core inventory will be installed.
The exception is the PARA E1R keyway version- this version is shipped keyed (not 0-bitted) and includes two operating key blanks. All G-series and S-series keyways (GC, GD, SA, SB, etc.) ship 0-bitted.
KA1193: Keyed Alike Configuration
If you searched "ka1193"- the KA suffix designates Keyed Alike. When multiple 1193 cylinders are ordered KA, they all operate on the same key cut. All cylinders open with one key. This is distinct from KD (Keyed Different), where each cylinder has a unique key that doesn't open any other. A facility specifying one key for multiple exit device trims across a building specifies KA. A facility wanting independent key control on each opening specifies KD.
1193L: The 7-Pin Housing Variant
If you searched "1193l"- the 7-pin version of the 1193 is available. The standard 1193 ships as a 6-pin LFIC. A 7-pin housing provides more key differs- more unique key combinations- which is essential in large master key systems where a 6-pin system would exhaust available key changes. The 7-pin version uses the same housing body and collar options; confirm pin count when ordering.
Collar Options and What Ships in the Box
The 1193 ships with the housing, a 6-pin LFIC core in the specified keyway, a collar, mounting plate, and screws. Three recessed cylinder collar sizes are available: 1765.250 (1/4-inch), 1765.469 (15/32-inch), and 1765.656 (21/32-inch). The collar depth determines how far the cylinder projects from the mounting plate- select based on the trim escutcheon thickness of the specific exit device trim being used.
Control keys are not furnished with interchangeable core cylinders. If control keys are required to enable core removal, they must be specified and ordered separately.
