The Accentra Yale 5491LN is a Grade 1 fail secure electrified cylindrical lever lock from the ASSA ABLOY Accentra 5400LN Series, built for perimeter doors and security openings where controlled access via card reader, keypad, or biometric credential is required. Fail secure means the lock stays locked when power is lost and unlocks when power is applied. Accentra Yale 5491LN Fail Secure Electrified Lock, 5400LN Series Grade 1

The 5491LN function operates as follows. When power is on, the outside lever is unlocked and allows latch retraction by lever rotation. When power is off, the outside lever is locked. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress regardless of power state, which satisfies life safety and ADA egress requirements on any commercial opening. A mechanical key override in the outside cylinder retracts the latchbolt at any time, providing authorized access without requiring a power cycle or system intervention.

The Free-Wheeling lever mechanism is a standard feature on all 5400LN locking functions. When the outside lever is locked, it rotates freely up and down 60 degrees without engaging the lock mechanism. That means forced or accidental lever pressure does not stress the lock body. In high-traffic or high-risk environments, this design reduces hardware damage significantly and eliminates the replacement cycle that non-Free-Wheeling levers generate over time.

Electrical Specifications and ElectroLynx Wiring

The 5491LN uses a self-contained, continuous-duty integral solenoid that fits within a standard cylindrical door prep. No oversized cutout, no special door modification. The solenoid runs on 12V DC or 24V DC. An external rectifier is available on request for AC operation when the panel output is not regulated DC.

Power is delivered through the 8-position ElectroLynx plug connector, Accentra's proprietary wiring system that links power from the door hinge through to the lock body. ElectroLynx is compatible with Accentra and Stanley electrified hinges as well as SDC, Command Access, and other electrified hinge brands that carry the same connector standard. The connector eliminates field splicing at the lock body and significantly reduces installation time on multi-door projects.

A REX (Request to Exit) switch option is available. Operating the inside lever activates the REX switch, which outputs a signal that can shunt a door alarm, monitor egress events in the access control log, or release a magnetic lock held in the egress path. For full door event monitoring, the REX option covers inside lever activation without requiring a separate sensor.
