About this item
The Accentra 628F is a passage lever trim for exit devices across multiple Accentra series. If you've been searching "628f", "628x2", "1500-628", or "ab628a" - the 628F is ANSI Function 14 passage trim in Accentra's 628 trim series. Accentra was formerly Yale, now part of ASSA ABLOY. The Yale commercial hardware line was rebranded as Accentra when ASSA ABLOY consolidated its North American brands. Nothing about the product changed at rebrand. Same construction, same function, same compatibility across the 1500, 1800, 2100, 6000, and 7000 Series exit devices.
Function 14 Passage: What the Outside Lever Does
ANSI Function 14 is the passage function. The outside lever is always active and always free. There is no key cylinder in the standard passage configuration. Anyone approaching from outside pushes the lever down and the door opens, provided the exit device latch releases normally. The lever never locks, never requires a credential, and never holds the latch in a secured position.
Passage trim is the correct specification for fire stair re-entry doors, lobby inner entries, corridors where free egress and free entry are both required, and any exit door where outside access should remain unconditional. If your opening requires outside lever control by key at any point, the 626F (classroom/storeroom) or 627F (nightlatch) is the right choice instead. The 628F is for openings where outside entry should always be free.
"1500-628" and Device Compatibility Explained
If you searched "1500-628" you're looking for 628F trim paired with the Accentra 1500 Series exit device. That's a correct and supported combination. The 628F mounts on Accentra's 1500, 1800, 2100, 6000, and 7000 Series exit devices for both wood and metal doors. A single trim specification covers the entire Accentra exit device family, which simplifies hardware scheduling on projects with multiple series across different door types. No separate trim per device series required.
AU Lever, Escutcheon Construction, and Through-Bolting
The standard lever on the 628F is AU, the Augusta lever design. It's a clean commercial lever with a profile that reads as professional without being either purely institutional or decorative. The 628F uses escutcheon-style trim rather than rose-mounted trim. The escutcheon is a taller vertical plate covering the lock case area on the push side of the door.
The escutcheon is through-bolted directly to the exit device body, not just screwed into the door face. Through-bolting means the trim is mechanically integrated with the device. If someone pulls or pries on the outside lever, the force goes through the device bolts rather than just the trim mounting screws. The sides of the escutcheon are beveled, reducing grip surface for any attack attempt. The lever is free-wheeling under excessive force, meaning it spins rather than transmitting torque to the latch mechanism and protecting the device from lever-attack damage.
Standard door thickness is 1-3/4 inches. The escutcheon dimensions are 3 inches wide by 10-1/4 inches tall by 13/16 inches deep. Handing is field reversible.
