What "AMB-20" Means
The model number tells you everything. "AMB" is Cal-Royal's Amber lever design from the Summit Series - a clean, contemporary lever profile with concealed mounting screws for a smooth, hardware-free appearance on the rose plate. "20" is the privacy function. Privacy means the outside lever can be locked from inside by pressing the push button, and unlocked from inside by turning the inside lever. There is no key operation on the outside - that function is the AMB-00 entrance model. The AMB-20 is specifically for rooms where privacy control belongs entirely to the person inside: bathrooms, locker rooms, hotel rooms, private offices, single-occupancy spaces.
Quick Note on "Amber Russwin"
If you found this page searching "amber russwin" - that's a common confusion in the market. Cal-Royal's Amber design and Corbin Russwin are completely separate brands. "Amber" is a Cal-Royal lever style name, not a Corbin Russwin product. This AMB-20 is manufactured by Cal-Royal Products, Inc., based in Commerce, California, and is unrelated to the Corbin Russwin product line.
Privacy Function: How It Works
Press the push button on the inside rose and the outside lever locks - it turns freely without retracting the latch. That freewheeling action is intentional. The outside lever spins rather than catching or binding, which protects the mechanism from forced entry attempts.
To release from inside, simply turn the inside lever. The push button disengages automatically and the latch retracts for exit. Auto-release is built into the privacy mechanism on all Summit Series designs - there's no step where the room occupant has to manually disengage the privacy button before exiting. One lever motion handles everything.
Emergency release from outside is through the 1/8-inch emergency release slot in the outside lever, using a standard coin or thin flat tool. This is the standard residential and light commercial privacy emergency access path.
