Corbin Russwin ML2030 Privacy Lock: How the Function Works

The ML2030 carries ANSI Function F19, which is the privacy function with both a latchbolt and a deadbolt. The function operates as follows:

The latchbolt operates freely from either side by grip unless the outside grip is locked by the thumbturn inside. The deadbolt is thrown or retracted by the thumbturn inside only. From the outside, the deadbolt can only be retracted by an emergency release tool, not by a key. The inside grip simultaneously retracts both the latchbolt and the deadbolt when turned, and unlocks the outside grip. This means a single inside lever operation clears the door completely, which is the correct behavior for life safety egress in privacy applications.

The privacy function provides occupancy privacy without trapping the occupant. Anyone inside can always exit freely by turning the inside lever. Emergency access from outside is provided by a slotted emergency release tool that retracts the deadbolt without a key. This is the correct specification for hotel guestrooms, hospital patient rooms, single-occupancy restrooms, and residential-style private spaces in commercial buildings.
