About this item
The dormitory and entrance function is the most operationally nuanced of the standard Corbin Russwin ML2000 mortise functions. The ML2065 is ANSI F13: both levers operate the latch freely when the deadbolt is retracted, which means the door operates like a standard lever passage lock during normal open hours. When the occupant or corridor staff throws the deadbolt, the outside lever locks rigid. A key from the outside cylinder retracts the deadbolt for entry from the corridor. A thumbturn on the inside retracts the deadbolt from inside. And any time the inside lever is turned for egress, it simultaneously retracts the latchbolt, retracts the deadbolt, and unlocks the outside lever in a single motion. Inside lever is always free.
This function is designed for hotel guest rooms, university and college dormitory rooms, hospital patient rooms, and private office suites where occupants need to lock themselves in with a deadbolt from inside while staff retain key access from outside at all times. The ML2065 LWA puts that function in the ML2000 Grade 1 lockcase with the Lustra Wide (LW) lever on an A rose, the most commonly specified trim configuration in the ML2000 series.

ANSI F13 Dormitory Function: Three States, One Lock
State one is unlocked: deadbolt retracted. Both outside and inside levers operate the latch freely. Occupants and staff enter and exit without a key. This is the normal daytime operating state for hotel corridors, dormitory common-area adjacent rooms, and office suite entrances during business hours.
State two is locked: deadbolt thrown. The outside lever becomes rigid. The door can be opened from outside only by a key in the outside cylinder that retracts the deadbolt. No push button toggle this state, no electrical signal was required. The occupant inside simply turned the thumbturn to throw the deadbolt.
State three is egress: inside lever turned. When the inside lever rotates, it simultaneously retracts the latch and the deadbolt, and unlocks the outside lever. This single motion exits the room and returns the lock to state one. No separate deadbolt retraction step is needed for inside egress. Anyone inside can exit immediately regardless of whether the deadbolt is thrown.

ML2065 vs. ML2057: Choosing the Right Function
The ML2057 (storeroom, ANSI F07) is specified when the outside lever must always be rigid and key-only entry is always required. No one without a key can ever enter from outside, and the occupant cannot unlock the outside lever from inside. The ML2065 (dormitory/entrance, ANSI F13) is specified when both levers should operate freely during normal hours but the occupant needs the ability to lock both the latch and deadbolt from inside, and staff need full deadbolt key access from outside. If the requirement is permanent key-control of outside access, specify ML2057. If the requirement is occupant-controlled deadbolt lockout with staff key override, specify ML2065.
