The ML2065 operates on ANSI Function F13. The latchbolt operates by grip from either side unless the outside grip is locked by projection of the deadbolt. The deadbolt is thrown or retracted by key from the outside, or by thumbturn from inside. Operating the inside grip simultaneously retracts both the latchbolt and the deadbolt and unlocks the outside grip in a single motion, providing immediate one-action egress from the room at all times. The inside grip is always free.

In practical terms, an occupant locks the room from inside by turning the interior thumbturn. An authorized person enters from outside by key, which retracts the deadbolt and allows the outside lever to function. The inside lever always exits the room regardless of the deadbolt state.
