Design Hardware DH-LE-08 Entry Function Exit Trim

The DH-LE-08 adds the outside control: key entry from the corridor, solid stainless steel lever, stainless steel exterior housing on a zinc dichromated steel chassis, and a mortise cylinder that ships included with the trim. Design Hardware's entry function (function 08) gives the outside lever key-controlled access from the corridor while the inside push bar remains always free for panic egress. When the key retracts the latch from outside, the door opens. The push bar operates independently on the inside at all times.

ANSI Function 08: Entry Function Explained

Design Hardware's function 08 is the entry function for exit device trim. The outside lever is key-controlled: a key in the 1-1/8" mortise cylinder retracts the latch bolt for outside entry. The outside lever does not operate the latch without a key. Inside, the panic push bar always retracts the latch bolt for free egress without a key, without a code, and without any mechanical restriction. This is the standard specification for commercial entrance doors controlled with an exit device where key entry from outside is required at all times.

For buyers searching ANSI function 08 specifically: Design Hardware uses their own function numbering system for exit trim, and their "08" entry function corresponds to key-controlled outside latch retraction combined with unrestricted inside egress via the push bar. This is the equivalent of the storeroom or night latch function in exit device trim terminology from other manufacturers.

Cylinder Included: What That Means for Ordering

The DH-LE-08 ships with a 1-1/8" mortise cylinder keyed to Schlage C keyway standard. That means the outside lever cylinder arrives ready to key. Keyed Different is the standard configuration: each cylinder ships with a random key set. Keyed Alike and Master Keyed options are available, typically at additional cost. If the facility runs an existing Schlage C keyway master key system, the cylinder can be keyed into that system by specifying the keyway and cut specifications at time of order.

The standard cam that ships with the cylinder is pre-configured for the DH-LE-08 trim. If a different cylinder is required (different keyway, IC core, or restricted keyway), verify cam compatibility before substituting.

LE-08 vs. Other DH Trim Functions

The LE-08 (entry) requires key operation from outside each time the door is accessed. The LE-01 (pull only, if available) would provide a pull without key control.
