The Detex 09BN is a storeroom function outside lever trim for Detex Value Series exit devices. It's designed for the V40 Series rim exit devices and V50 Series surface vertical rod devices. What the 09 Storeroom Function Means at the Door
When this trim is installed on the outside of the door, the lever won't turn without a key. You insert the key, the lever becomes active, you turn the lever and the latch retracts for entry. Remove the key and the lever is rigid again. From inside, the push bar operates normally for egress at any time.
This is different from the 08BN classroom trim- where a key locks or unlocks the lever and it stays in that state until changed again. On the 09BN storeroom, every entry requires a key. There's no unlocked state where the lever remains free for multiple people to pass through. Every cycle of the door requires key engagement from outside. That's the right specification for pharmaceutical storage, server rooms, secure supply closets, and any opening where every individual entry event needs to be keyed.
BN Lever and Trim Construction
The BN designation identifies the lever style. The BN trim is a zinc casting, not extruded aluminum. It's available in two finishes- 689 (Aluminum Painted, matching the brushed aluminum look of most Value Series devices) and 693 (Black Painted, matching the 711 black finish devices). The standard lever included is the S lever. The trim plate is 1-29/32 inches wide by 8-1/4 inches tall, with a lever projection of 2-15/16 inches and a lever length of 4-3/8 inches.
Cylinder: Not Included, Mortise Type Required
The 09BN ships less cylinder. No cylinder is in the box. To complete the installation you need a mortise cylinder with a standard Yale cam- the same cam used across most Detex Value Series cylinder applications. The 161 door prep cover plate is included standard, so the trim mounts cleanly over standard cylindrical door preparations. If your door already has a 161 prep, the 09BN installs without additional door modification.
Field Reversible Handing
The 09BN is field reversible. You don't need to specify handing at the time of ordering- the trim installs and then gets configured for the correct door hand on-site. That's a meaningful advantage on commercial projects where door schedules change during construction.
Function Change Without Removing the Exit Device
One of the most practical features of the Detex Value Series trim system is that changing outside trim function doesn't require removing the exit device from the door. The trim mounts to the device mounting plate on the pull side of the door. If you're converting a door from entrance function to storeroom- or replacing a worn trim on an existing installation- you swap the outside trim only. The panic device stays mounted. That makes the 09BN an efficient retrofit option for facilities updating security levels on existing Detex Value Series doors without full hardware replacement.
