About this item
The Dormakaba RTS88 is the overhead concealed door closer for center-hung pivot doors. Standard side-hung doors use hinges and can accept a wide range of surface, concealed in-door (ITS96), or concealed in-frame (LCN 2030) closers. Center-hung doors pivot on a top pivot and a bottom pivot at the center of the door's edge, and they need a closer designed specifically for that geometry. The RTS88 concealed body is installed in the header above the door opening, completely invisible from both sides when the door is in the closed position. Nothing is visible on the door face, nothing is visible on the frame face. The track that connects the closer body to the door is the only hardware that shows, and it runs along the top edge of the door where it's minimally visible in normal use.
The cast-iron body with heavy-duty ball bearings at the spindle and steel cam-and-roller assembly coupled to dual steel pistons is designed for the continuous, high-cycle use that center-hung glass vestibule doors and storefront pivot entrances demand. Non-handed: the same RTS88 body works on single-acting and double-acting doors without modification. The compact body profile fits into headers as small as 1-3/4" x 4". RTS88 Model Selection: SZ3, SZ4, BFI, and BFE
Four spring size configurations are available, selected based on door size, door weight, and ADA opening force requirements.
SZ3 covers interior doors from over 3'-0" to 3'-6" wide and exterior doors from over 2'-6" to 3'-0" wide. SZ4 covers larger door widths. Both are standard strength configurations.
RTS88BFI is the Barrier-Free Interior configuration. It meets the 5 lb maximum opening force requirement for interior 3'-0" wide center-hung single or double-acting doors. When the ADA requires 5 lb or less opening force on an interior door, the RTS88BFI is the specification. Available in 105° NHO and 105° HO configurations only.
RTS88BFE is the Barrier-Free Exterior configuration. It delivers the lightest exterior maximum opening force available on 3'-0" wide center-hung doors (8.5 lb). When the project specification calls for the minimum practical exterior opening force on a pivot door, the RTS88BFE meets that requirement. Available in 105° NHO and 105° HO configurations only.
Both the BFI and BFE are suited for easy retrofit of Jackson, Rixson 608, and similar-style existing concealed closers.

Auxiliary Stop Requirement
Every RTS88 installation requires an auxiliary stop. The integral cushion limits door swing to 90° or 105°, but the auxiliary stop provides the physical door stop that takes the opening load. Without an auxiliary stop, the closer body absorbs the full force of the door reaching its travel limit, which causes premature wear and potential damage to the RTS88 mechanism. Specify and install an appropriate pivot door auxiliary stop as part of every RTS88 project.
