About this item
The dormakaba YR09 is the wide stile escutcheon lever trim for dormakaba's 9000 Series exit devices, configured for the Night Latch function with an R-style rectangular lever and a factory-installed Schlage C keyway cylinder. If you've been searching for "dorma exit device trim" or "kaba exit device trims," this is the correct product. Dorma and Kaba merged to form dormakaba in 2015. The YR09 is the same trim previously sold under the Dorma label. Products may arrive with either Dorma or dormakaba branding and are the same part.
Decoding the YR09 Model Number
Every character in YR09 specifies something. The Y designates the Y-Series escutcheon trim format, which is the wide stile escutcheon plate that mounts on the pull side of the door for the 9300 and wider 9000 Series devices. The R identifies the lever profile: the R lever is the rectangular straight lever design, as opposed to the C lever (curved bow profile) used on the YC Series trim. The 09 is the function code for Night Latch.
Night Latch Function: What "Key Retracts Latchbolt" Means
Night Latch function (Function 09) is one of the most commonly misunderstood exit device trim functions in the field. Here is exactly how it operates.
From the pull side of the door: the outside lever is always locked and cannot be turned by hand, regardless of any setting. The only way to retract the latch from outside is to insert the correct key and turn it. Turning the key directly retracts the latchbolt, pulling the lever back, allowing the door to open. The lever and key work together as a single mechanism.
From the push side of the door: the inside lever or the pushpad on the exit device always allows free egress. Nothing on the exterior affects interior operation.
This is distinct from the Classroom function (F08), where the key toggles the outside lever between a locked state and a free state. In Night Latch, there is no "unlocked" lever state. The key always retracts the latch on every entry. This function is specified for building main entrances, secure facility entries, and after-hours controlled access points where key entry is required on every use and there should be no way to leave the outside lever in an unlocked position.
Wide Stile Escutcheon and the R Lever
Wide stile refers to the door stile width for which the trim escutcheon is sized. Wide stile doors, typically hollow metal commercial doors, have stile widths that accommodate the larger Y-Series escutcheon plate. The YR09 trim will not correctly mount on narrow stile aluminum storefront doors, which use different trim configurations.
The R lever is dormakaba's designation for their rectangular lever profile, a straight horizontal lever with a standard commercial profile. It's a non-ADA-specific lever, suitable for use on doors where ADA compliance is established by the exit device's low-force operation rather than a specific lever shape. Confirm ADA lever requirements for your jurisdiction if applicable.
Cylinder and Keyway
The YR09 includes a factory-installed Schlage C keyway cylinder. Schlage C is the most widely deployed commercial keyway in North America. For facilities already operating a Schlage masterkey system, the YR09 cylinder drops directly into the existing key hierarchy. The cylinder is the standard 6-pin Schlage C format.
All standard dormakaba 9000 Series devices and trim are designed for doors from 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick. For thicker doors, consult dormakaba technical service before ordering.
