About this item
The Falcon 712L-NL is the lever trim in this function for Falcon 24 Series exit devices. The "R/V" means it works on both Rim and Vertical devices in the 24 Series: rim exit devices where only the latch bolt engages the strike at the frame, and vertical rod devices (surface vertical rod or concealed vertical rod) where rods engage the top and bottom strikes simultaneously. One trim SKU covers both configurations within the 24 Series, which simplifies procurement on multi-opening projects with mixed device types. Shear Pin Protection
The 712L-NL includes an easily replaceable shear pin that protects the internal trim mechanism from vandalism and forced attack. When excessive torque is applied to the outside lever (attempting to force entry by over-torquing the lever), the shear pin breaks before the internal mechanism does. A broken shear pin disables the outside lever but leaves the device fully operational from inside for egress. The shear pin is replaced without replacing the trim: a service part swap rather than a full trim replacement. On high-risk openings where forced lever attack is a realistic concern, the shear pin is the trim's first line of mechanical defense.

NL vs. Other Exit Trim Functions
Night latch (NL) is the most common outside trim function on commercial exit device doors because it matches how most commercial buildings operate: the door is locked outside hours, keyed entry for authorized personnel, and inside panic egress always available via the push bar regardless of outside lever state.
Other functions in the 712L series include: passage (both levers always free, no key control), storeroom (outside lever always locked, key retracts latch each time), and classroom (key from corridor controls lever lock/unlock). Night latch differs from storeroom in one important way: night latch allows the key to toggle the lever between locked and unlocked states, while storeroom always requires key entry every single time regardless of unlocked state.
