The Glynn-Johnson 411H is part of the 410 Series, the most specified concealed overhead door control line in commercial construction, and it's the hold-open configuration for doors with widths from 18-1/16" to 23".

The "H" in 411H means hold-open. When the door swings to the preset open position, the internal mechanism engages and holds it there. No manual latching, no wedge, no prop. The door stays open until someone pushes it closed. Hold-open tension is adjustable with an Allen wrench through the end of the slider in the door channel, allowing field tuning without removing the unit. 411H vs 411S vs 411F: Choosing the Right Function

The 410 Series comes in three functions for the 18-1/16" to 23" door range. The 411H (this product) holds the door open at the preset angle automatically and requires a deliberate push to close. It's the correct specification for corridors, hospital wings, and commercial spaces where doors need to stay open for extended periods during operating hours.

The 411S is stop-only: it controls the maximum opening angle and provides shock absorption but does not hold the door open. The 411S can be used on fire doors where hold-open function is not permitted. The 411F uses a friction mechanism to hold the door open. Unlike the 411H, the 411F's hold-open force is continuous and adjustable, making it suited for openings where partial or gradual release is preferred.

If your opening is fire-rated and requires automatic release, neither the 411H nor the 411F is the specification. Use 411S (stop-only) or a fire-rated electromagnetic holder connected to the fire alarm system.

Important Application Note

The 410 Series is designed for interior openings subject to normal activity. For exterior doors subject to wind loading, or doors and frames receiving heavy, frequent use, the Glynn-Johnson 100 Series (heavy duty concealed) or 700/900 Series (heavy duty surface-mount) is the appropriate specification. Using a medium-duty holder on a high-traffic exterior opening will result in premature wear and mechanism failure.

Door Width and Series Selection

The 411H fits doors from 18-1/16" to 23" wide. For adjacent openings with different door widths, matching products in the same 410 Series H function cover the full commercial door width range: 412H for 23-1/16" to 27" doors, 413H for 27-1/16" to 33" doors, 414H for 33-1/16" to 39" doors, and 415H for 39-1/16" to 45" doors. Specifying the correct width range matters because the internal channel length is fixed to the door width range. Ordering a wider-range model for a narrow door leaves an exposed channel that interferes with installation.
