About this item
The Taco TH1100-TPEDAL is the outside trim for panic exit devices that use a tailpiece mechanism for outside entry. The trim mounts on the outside of the door and provides a thumbpiece: a horizontal thumb-operated bar that you push down from outside to rotate the trim spindle, which engages the exit device's tailpiece, which retracts the latch and opens the door. The key lock cylinder on the trim controls whether the thumbpiece can operate. When the cylinder is in the locked position, the thumbpiece spins freely without operating the tailpiece. A key from outside unlocks the thumbpiece so it can operate the latch for entry.
This is outside entry trim for the panic exit device, not a replacement for the device itself. The exit device handles inside egress via the pushbar. This trim handles outside keyed entry via thumbpiece. The two work together on the same door: the device provides always-free inside egress, the TH1100 trim provides controlled outside entry from the corridor. Thumbpiece vs Lever Trim: Which to Specify
Two common outside trim types are available for panic exit devices: lever trim and thumbpiece trim. The LHL-500 is the Imperial Taco lever trim, a full-size lever that operates the latch from outside. The TH1100-TPEDAL (this product) is the thumbpiece trim, a horizontal bar operated by thumb or hand downward pressure.
Thumbpiece trim is typically specified on institutional and commercial doors where a full lever trim is not required or preferred. On doors where outside entry will be infrequent or primarily by authorized staff, the thumbpiece configuration is simpler, more compact, and less susceptible to vandalism or accidental activation than a full exposed lever. On restroom corridor doors, utility rooms, and light commercial entries, the thumbpiece trim is the standard specification.
TH1100 Compatibility: Most Brands Exit Devices
The TH1100-TPEDAL works with most brands of panic exit devices that are activated by a tailpiece. This includes rim and surface vertical rod devices from Falcon, Von Duprin, Detex, Precision, and other manufacturers where the outside trim connects via a tailpiece rather than a specific proprietary trim chassis. Before ordering, confirm that the exit device installed on the door uses a tailpiece interface for outside trim connection. Exit devices that use proprietary non-tailpiece trim interfaces require brand-specific outside trim and are not compatible with the TH1100.

The TH1100-TPEDAL is installed on the outside of the door. The trim spindle must be positioned to engage the exit device's tailpiece when the door is closed. Trim mounting follows the exit device's trim installation specifications; most tailpiece-activated devices include a template for outside trim spindle location.
