About this item
The Imperial TC4300 is the heaviest-duty closer in the Imperial/Global Door Controls commercial line, built specifically for institutional and high-traffic doors that see constant daily use. Cast iron body with a hardened steel rack and pinion mechanism. Adjustable spring sizes 1 through 6 in a single unit. Three independent speed control valves. Grade 1 certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.4, UL listed under #R7483, and backed by a 25-year warranty that is among the longest in the commercial door closer category.
The cast iron body is the first distinction from aluminum-body commercial closers. Cast iron is dimensionally stable under extreme temperature variation and resists deformation under sustained high-cycle use. A school main entrance, a hospital corridor door, or a high-traffic lobby door that cycles hundreds of times daily puts different demands on the closer body than a light commercial interior. The TC4300 cast iron construction is built for those conditions. For all commercial door closers, browse our door closers catalog. For all standard surface door closers, view our standard door closers catalog.
Three Independent Valves: Sweep, Latch, and Backcheck
Most commercial closers include sweep and latch speed valves. The TC4300 has three independent valves: sweep speed (controls closing rate from full open to approximately 10 degrees from closed), latch speed (controls closing rate from 10 degrees to fully closed for reliable latching), and backcheck (controls resistance when the door is pushed open hard, protecting the door, frame, and closer from impact damage). All three are independently adjustable after installation without removing the closer or cover. This level of control allows the installer to tune the closer specifically to the door's weight, traffic pattern, and hardware requirements at each opening rather than accepting a compromise setting.
ADA Compliance and Opening Force
The TC4300 with spring adjusted to the lower end of the Size 1-6 range meets ADA and ANSI/BHMA opening force requirements for accessible doors. The 5-pound maximum opening force requirement for interior accessible doors is achievable with the TC4300 spring set appropriately for the door weight. Adjusting the spring size within the 1-6 range in the field after installation allows precise compliance with the opening force requirements for each door in the building.
