About this item
The Ives 59 is a commercial-grade handrail bracket available in 13 finishes across cast brass and cast aluminum bodies. The large faceplate anchors securely into studs or solid substrate, the solid cast construction holds up to decades of daily load, and the 2-3/4" projection from wall to rail center meets the clearance most architectural handrails require. Meets ANSI/BHMA A156.16 (L13061 for brass, L33061 for aluminum), so it's spec-writer approved for commercial, institutional, and code-compliant residential installations.
What Is the Ives 59 Handrail Bracket
The Ives 59 is a fixed-projection handrail bracket designed to support round wooden or metal handrails along walls in stairways, corridors, accessible ramps, and multi-family common areas. Ives (part of the Allegion family) has been one of the most specified architectural hardware brands in North America for over a century, and the 59 is their long-running workhorse bracket. The design is simple and intentional: a mounting faceplate that takes screws into studs or anchors, a solid cast arm that carries the load without flexing, and a saddle at the top that cradles the handrail. No moving parts, no wear items, no replaceable components. It's the kind of spec where the building will get renovated three times before the bracket ever needs to be changed.

Select the exact finish you need at checkout. If you're matching an existing run of brackets in a renovation, the BHMA finish code is usually stamped on the back of the original; match that code and the new brackets will look identical.
How Many Handrail Brackets Do You Need
Most commercial handrail installations require brackets spaced no more than 96" apart per IBC/ADA requirements, with a bracket within 12" of each termination point. In practice, that works out to roughly 4 brackets per 12-foot run and 5 to 6 brackets per 16-foot run. Plan one bracket near the top and bottom terminations, plus intermediate brackets at maximum 8' centers. For residential applications, 5' to 6' spacing is a more common comfort spec. Order slightly more than your calculated count to cover cuts, mistakes, and future replacements.
