LCN 8310-819F Flush Mount Jamb Box

The LCN 8310-819F is the flush mount back box for jamb-mounted LCN 8310 Series ADA actuators in the 1-1/2 by 4-3/4 inch format. It's a rugged plastic enclosure that mounts into the door jamb, flush with the jamb face, and accepts any 1-1/2 by 4-3/4 inch jamb actuator from the LCN 8310 family. The actuator plate sits flat against the surrounding jamb surface with no protruding box edge visible. That recessed, flush appearance is the reason this box exists.

Without a back box, a jamb-mounted actuator has no housing to fasten to, no enclosure for the wiring, and no mounting plane. The back box solves all three. It provides the structural mount the actuator fastens to, the wiring compartment behind the plate, and the recessed pocket that allows the actuator to sit flush with the jamb face. The 819F is the flush version. The companion 819S is the surface version, which mounts on top of the jamb face rather than recessed into it. Flush vs Surface: When Each Mount Applies

The flush mount (8310-819F) requires cutting a pocket into the door jamb. The jamb material has to be thick enough and deep enough to accept the box dimensions. For hollow metal frames and wood frames with adequate depth, flush mounting is straightforward and produces a finished appearance that aligns with the surrounding jamb surface. On aluminum storefront frames and shallow hollow metal frames where the jamb depth is insufficient for a recessed pocket, the surface mount box is the practical choice instead.

Specify the 8310-819F when the door jamb has adequate depth for a flush-mounted back box and when the finished appearance requires the actuator plate to sit flat with the jamb face. Specify the surface mount version when the jamb material or depth won't accommodate a recess, or when the installation timeline doesn't allow for frame modification.

Jamb vs Wall: Two Actuator Formats in the 8310 System

The LCN 8310 actuator system uses two physical form factors. Wall actuators are 4-3/4 inch square and mount on the wall face beside the door. Jamb actuators are 1-1/2 by 4-3/4 inches and mount on the narrow face of the door frame directly.

The 8310-819F is sized for the jamb format: 1-1/2 by 4-3/4 inches. It only works with 8310 Series jamb actuators in that format, specifically the 8310-3818 family (3818TWF, 3818TWS, 3818WF, 3818WS). Wall actuators use different back boxes sized for 4-3/4 inch square format.

Jamb mounting is typically specified when wall space beside the door is limited, when the accessible approach path runs parallel to the door frame rather than perpendicular to the wall, or when the hardware schedule specifically calls for frame-mounted actuators.
