About this item
The Locknetics CS450-32D is a low-profile electric strike for cylindrical locksets and select mortise locksets without a deadbolt, in both metal and wood door frames. It accepts latch bolts up to 9/16 inch in keeper depth, runs on 12 or 24 VDC, and lets you choose between fail-safe and fail-secure operation in the field with a simple screw reversal — no rewiring, no ordering a different model.
That field-selectable fail mode is the feature that makes the CS450 genuinely flexible on the job. Fail-secure is the default: the strike stays locked when power is off, which is correct for most access-controlled security doors. Fail-safe means the strike unlocks when power is off, which is correct for fire egress doors where the door must be free to open during a power failure or fire alarm. Same strike, same installation, different screw position. Confirm the required fail mode for the opening with the Authority Having Jurisdiction before setting it, and document the setting in the as-built records. What Ships in the Box
The CS450-32D includes more than most electric strikes ship with. Two faceplates: a radius edge and a square edge, both in 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" stainless steel (finish 630/US32D). You pick the one that matches the door frame and discard the other. A trim piece is included for improved installation appearance. Aluminum frame mounting tabs are included for aluminum frame installations. A voltage spike suppressor is included to protect the strike electronics from voltage transients on the door hardware wiring. The 12/24VDC selection is made in the field, also without rewiring.
CS450 vs CS750: Keeper Depth Is the Deciding Spec
The CS450 and CS750 are the same Locknetics CS Series electric strike in two different keeper depths. The CS450 accepts latch bolts up to 9/16 inch. The CS750 accepts latch bolts up to 3/4 inch. The latch bolt projection on the lockset installed on the door determines which you need.
Standard cylindrical locksets have 1/2-inch latch bolt projection. The CS450 (9/16-inch keeper) covers those with clearance to spare. Larger cylindrical locksets, some mortise locksets, and locksets with 3/4-inch projection need the CS750. Measure the latch bolt projection of the installed lockset before ordering between the two. Ordering the wrong keeper depth means the latch either doesn't seat fully in the keeper or doesn't release cleanly when the strike energizes.
NC450 and Fail Mode Reference
Some hardware schedules and access control specifications reference the NC450 designation, which refers to the Normally Closed (fail-secure) configuration. The CS450-32D ships in fail-secure mode by default (fail-secure = latch held, door locked when power is off). If the specification calls for NC450, this is the product. The simple screw reversal converts it to fail-safe (NO configuration) if the spec requires it instead.
