About this item
The Marks 195SSF/32D is a Grade 1 anti-ligature storeroom lock from the Marks LifeSaver 195SS Series - built specifically for behavioral health facilities, psychiatric units, hospitals, correctional facilities, and X-ray settings where standard lever hardware creates an unacceptable ligature risk. American Locksets stocks this lock in-house. Free shipping on orders over $300 and same-day shipping available.
What Makes This Lock Anti-Ligature
Most cylindrical lever locks have two things that create ligature attachment points: a lever that springs back to a fixed horizontal position, and a gap between the lever and the rose plate where a cord, fabric, or strap can catch.
The Marks 195SSF eliminates both. The solid cast stainless steel lever rotates freely up and down in both the locked and unlocked position - there's no spring return that holds the lever in a fixed position, so there's nothing to hook onto and no mechanical advantage to apply. The lever is also recessed directly into the solid stainless steel rose, eliminating the open gap around the lever base. Nothing can get between the lever and the rose. That combination is what institutional specifiers are looking for when they write "anti-ligature" or "ligature-resistant" into a behavioral health hardware schedule.
Function: Storeroom (ANSI F86)
Storeroom function means the outside lever is always locked and rigid regardless of any inside action. The only way to retract the latch from outside is with a key. The inside lever is always free - anyone inside can exit without a key at any time. The latch is a deadlocking guarded latch (#1834 with stainless steel nose), meaning the latchbolt automatically deadlocks when the door closes against the strike, preventing the latch from being slipped or carded.
This is the right function for medication storage rooms, mental health treatment rooms, secure corridors, and any opening where uncontrolled outside entry is a security or safety risk.

Applications
The 195SSF belongs in any opening where a ligature-resistant specification is required by code, accreditation standard, or facility risk assessment. That includes inpatient psychiatric units, behavioral health clinics, detox and rehabilitation facilities, correctional housing and treatment areas, VA hospitals, and X-ray rooms where hardware with ferromagnetic properties cannot be used.
Standard cylindrical hardware has no place in those environments. The 195SSF was designed from the ground up for them - Grade 1 strength, institutional finish that holds up to cleaning protocols, and a lever geometry that removes the attachment risk without compromising the ergonomic operation that elderly and mobility-limited patients need.
American Locksets has stocked Marks LifeSaver hardware since 2001.
