PDQ 6300M Grade 1 Architectural Wide Stile Mortise Exit Device, For 36" Door

The PDQ 6300M is the wide stile mortise exit device in PDQ's 6300 Series, built for 36-inch single doors with a stile width of 5 inches or more. The 3/4-inch throw deadlocking stainless steel latch bolt seats deeper in the strike than the standard 1/2-inch latch on most rim exit devices. Deeper engagement means higher pull-through resistance on the latch when the door is closed and locked. The deadlocking feature prevents shimming - a secondary plunger prevents the latch from being retracted by inserting a card or tool between the door and frame.

The Cush Spring: Why It Matters on a Busy Door

PDQ's patent-pending Cush spring is one of the 6300M's most practical features. A standard exit device spring only cushions the compression of the push bar (when someone pushes it). When the bar releases and returns, it snaps back with full spring force. On a door that gets pushed hundreds of times a day - a school corridor, a healthcare facility, a busy office building - that snap adds up to noise, mechanical wear, and a device that sounds abused even when it isn't.

The Cush spring quiets both directions: compression when the bar goes in, extension when it comes back. The bar returns controlled, not snapped. Combined with an internal compression spring for the return action (more reliable than torsion-type springs under repeated load), the 6300M runs quieter and holds up longer than standard-spring exit devices on the same traffic cycle.

Wide Stile Specification: Minimum 5-Inch Stile

The 6300M requires a minimum 5-inch stile width. Wide stile doors - heavy-duty hollow metal, architectural framing systems, some wood commercial doors - have stiles wide enough to accommodate the mortise lock case and the full exit device footprint. Narrow stile aluminum storefront doors with 2 to 3-inch stiles need a CVR (concealed vertical rod) or rim device instead.

If you're retrofitting an existing mortise lock opening, the 6300M is built for exactly that. The MR Series mortise lock at the heart of this device matches standard ANSI A115.1 mortise preps. An existing mortise lock opening can be converted to a mortise exit device with the 6300M without re-prepping the door.

Dogging: Hex key dogging is standard - a hex wrench holds the bar depressed for push/pull free-passage periods. Cylinder dogging (CD) allows a key to dog and undog the device. Fire-listed (F) removes dogging entirely - fire doors must self-close and latch on every cycle, so dogging is never permitted on fire-rated openings.

Electrified options: Motorized Latch Retraction (MLR) retracts the latch bolt electrically on an access control signal, allowing outside entry without a key. Latch Bolt Monitor (LM) outputs a signal indicating latch bolt position - used to confirm the door is latched in access control systems. Both can be combined (MLR + LM). Delayed Egress (DE) adds a code-compliant 15-second delay before the door opens. Alarmed Exit (AL) sounds a local alarm when the bar is pushed - specify handing at order. Signal Switch (SS) provides a request-to-exit or monitoring output.
