Sargent 10G17 Utility, Asylum or Institutional Lock

The Sargent 10G17 is a heavy-duty cylindrical institutional lock from the Sargent 10 Line Grade 1 platform, the ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 commercial standard specified across hospitals, schools, behavioral health units, correctional facilities, and government buildings. The 10G17 carries ANSI function code F87 (utility, asylum, or institutional lock). Both levers stay rigid at all times, the latch deadlocks, and the lock is operated by key from either side: the inside key unlocks the inside lever and the outside key unlocks the outside lever. There is no thumbturn or push-button override. Sargent's published guidance is explicit: use the 10G17 only on rooms with more than one exit, since neither lever provides free egress without a key. What ANSI F87 Means and When to Specify It

F87 is the highest key-control function in the Sargent 10 Line. Every other 10 Line function (passage, classroom, storeroom, entry, office) gives at least one side free egress through a lever or thumbturn. F87 does not. That is the entire point of the institutional function: to prevent uncontrolled passage from either side of the door. Specify the 10G17 for secure utility rooms (electrical, mechanical, IT closets), behavioral health and seclusion rooms with secondary exits, asylum and patient rooms in psychiatric and correctional medical facilities, drug storage rooms, evidence rooms, and any room where free egress with a lever is a security or safety risk and a secondary exit exists. Do not specify the 10G17 on single-exit rooms or any room a person could be trapped inside.

Function: ANSI F87 utility/asylum/institutional, deadlocking latch, both levers rigid, key from either side. Door thickness: 1-3/4" to 2" (35 mm 1-3/8" with adapter plates). Four lever designs: LL (L Lever L Rose), LJ (J Lever L Rose), LB (B Lever L Rose), LP (P Lever L Rose). Cylinder, IC Core, and Keying Options

Standard configuration ships with a Sargent 6-pin brass conventional cylinder in the LA keyway. Less Cylinder (LC) available for facilities with existing cylinder inventory. Interchangeable core options: 60- prefix for Sargent Large Format IC (less core), 70- prefix for Small Format IC (less core). Keying: KA Keyed Alike, MK Master Keyed, plus Construction Master Keying available. SKU prefixes: 28- for select keyway configurations, 2860- for 60 IC, 2870- for 70 IC.
