About this item
The Schlage ALX10 SAT 626 is a Grade 2 passage cylindrical lock with the Saturn lever in satin chrome finish. If you've been searching "schlage al10s sat 626" or "schlage al10s" the ALX10 is the direct successor to the AL10S. Schlage replaced the AL Series with the ALX Series, keeping the same core model structure but redesigning the chassis for modularity, improved durability, and field reconfigurability. The product number changed from AL10S to ALX10. The function, lever, and finish designations stayed the same.
What ALX10 Means at the Door
The 10 function in the ALX series is passage ANSI F75. Both levers are always free. No key is needed, no key is included. Turning the Saturn lever from either side retracts the spring latch and the door opens. Neither lever ever locks. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress.
Passage function is specified for interior doors where access control isn't needed conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms with separate privacy locks, corridors, and openings where the door just needs to open and close with hardware that matches the rest of the building's lock schedule. The Saturn lever is one of Schlage's ADA-compliant designs it returns to within 1/2 inch of the door face, meeting the ADA lever return requirement.
AL Series to ALX Series: What Changed
The AL Series served commercial buildings for decades. The ALX replaces it with a single modular chassis that supports all cylinder applications and most ALX functions from one common platform. On the AL Series, changing lock function on an installed lockset often meant replacing the whole unit. On the ALX, you can change the function in the field without replacing the chassis the modular design allows function kits to be swapped on site.
The ALX also uses Grade 1 compression springs in a Grade 2 lock, which is what prevents lever droop and wobble over years of use. Deep-drawn spindles with 5 points of lever engagement add resistance to the kind of mechanical wear that causes older Grade 2 locks to loosen over time. The latchbolt is stainless steel. The result is a Grade 2 lock that holds up mechanically closer to Grade 1 performance even though the security rating stays at Grade 2 the right trade-off for medium-traffic interior openings where budget matters.
Saturn Lever and ADA Compliance
The Saturn lever is one of 10 available ALX lever designs. It's a clean, traditional commercial lever shape not the office look of the Omega or the architectural look of the Athens. Saturn is specified frequently on commercial interiors where a standard lever silhouette is needed without looking institutional. It meets ADA requirements, meets California State fire code for lever return clearance, and is available with a tactile warning texture (8SAT prefix) for doors adjacent to hazards.
