The switch has three terminals: common, normally open (NO), and normally closed (NC). This allows the installation wire to be used for either a door-open alarm (a circuit that is normally closed and opens when the door opens) or a door-closed signal (a circuit that is normally open and shuts when the door is closed), depending on what the access control panel or alarm system needs.
The concealed installation mounts both components inside the door edge and frame, completely out of view from either side of the door. No visible hardware, no exposed switch body on the door face.
679-05WD vs. 679-05 and 679-05HM: Choosing the Correct Version
The 679 Series comes in three versions matched to different door and frame material combinations. The 679-05 is for wood doors and wood frames. The 679-05WD is for wood doors with metal frames, which is the most common combination in commercial construction where hollow metal frames are used with solid wood or wood composite doors. The 679-05HM is for hollow metal doors and hollow metal frames. Installing the wrong version for the door and frame material combination will result in misalignment, unreliable switching, or installation that does not fit the door edge mortise geometry. Confirm the door material and frame material before ordering.
