About this item
The Schlage Electronics 7764 is a concealed flush-mount magnetic door position switch (DPS) that detects whether a door is open or closed and relays that status to an access control panel or alarm system. It is a Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) magnetic sensor rated at 0.25 amps at 30VDC, UL10C and CAN-ULC-S104 listed, and compatible with aluminum, wood, and hollow metal doors. Also known in the field as the Locknetics 7764, carrying the legacy Locknetics brand name from before Schlage Electronics absorbed that line under Allegion. American Locksets is an authorized Allegion Schlage Electronics dealer stocking the 7764 with same-day shipping and free shipping on all orders over $300.
Schlage 7764 Door Position Switch: What It Does and How It Works
The 7764 is a magnetic switch that doesn't need power. There are two parts to it: the switch body, which goes on the door frame or edge, and the magnet actuator, which goes on the door itself. The magnet lines up with the switch body when the door closes, which changes the relay status. The magnet pulls away when the door opens, and the relay state changes again. The access control panel or alarm system that watches the switch output sees this change in state as an open or closed signal.
The SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) output has both normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contacts. This lets the installer wire the switch to match the panel's input polarity without having a separate relay. Most access control panels and alarm panels accept either NO or NC door status inputs; the 7764's SPDT output handles both from a single device.

Concealed Flush Mount vs. Surface Mount: Why the 7764 Is Specified
The 7764 is the concealed flush-mount version of the Schlage magnetic switch family. Concealed flush mount means both the switch body and the magnet actuator recess into drilled pockets in the door and frame, leaving no visible hardware on the face of either the door or the frame when the door is closed. This is the preferred installation method when aesthetics matter, when doors are subject to vandalism, or when the installation requires that door position monitoring be as unobtrusive as possible.
The surface-mount alternative in the Schlage line is the 7766, which mounts on the door face and frame face with visible hardware. Both provide the same electrical output, but the 7764's concealed installation makes it a more tamper-resistant choice on high-security openings.
Schlage 7764 vs. Other Schlage Door Position Switches
The Schlage door position switch catalog covers several mounting configurations. The 679-05 and related 679 series cover wood, hollow metal, and mixed-material openings in surface-mounted configurations. The 7764 is the concealed flush-mount SPDT option for aluminum, wood, and hollow metal doors. The 7766 is the surface-mount SPDT equivalent for the same door types when concealed installation is not feasible.
The 674 series covers overhead door applications. If the opening is a rolling gate, overhead sectional door, or roof hatch rather than a standard hinged door, the 674-OH is the correct specification rather than the 7764.
