About this item
The Accentra D211 is the single cylinder deadbolt from the Accentra D Series, configured with a 2-3/8-inch backset. If you searched "d211 strike", "accentra deadbolt", "accentra deadbolts", "yale d292", "d211", or "211l" this is the product. Accentra is the rebranded name for Yale commercial hardware under ASSA ABLOY. The D211 carries the same specifications as the Yale D211 same function, same bolt, same certifications, same installation. The brand name changed; the product did not.
ANSI E0152 Function: Key Outside, Thumbturn Inside
The D211 function is ANSI E0152 deadbolt operated by key from outside, thumbturn from inside. From outside, a key retracts and extends the deadbolt. From inside, a thumbturn retracts and extends the deadbolt. Neither side requires a key for operation from the inside the thumbturn always works freely. This is the standard single cylinder deadbolt function used on virtually every commercial and institutional door that requires supplemental dead-locking in addition to the primary latchbolt.
The D211 is deadbolt only. It has no latch, no lever, and no automatic door retention. It's installed as a secondary security lock above the primary cylindrical or mortise lock, adding a dedicated key-controlled bolt that stays thrown until manually retracted.
D211 vs D212: The Backset Is the Only Difference
If you searched "d211" and compared it to the D212 these are the same lock in different backsets. The D211 is the 2-3/8-inch backset version. The D212 is the 2-3/4-inch backset version. Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the bolt hole. Most standard commercial and residential doors use either 2-3/8-inch or 2-3/4-inch backsets. Measure from the door edge to the center of your existing hole before ordering. The wrong backset means the faceplate won't sit flush on the door edge.
D211 Strike: What Ships Standard and What You Need to Know
If you searched "d211 strike" the D211 ships with both a metal door strike and a wood door strike standard. The strike is 2-3/4 inches by 1-1/8 inches with strike reinforcement included in the package. A 1-1/8-inch latch front filler plate is also supplied standard with each D Series deadbolt. The standard bored hole prep follows ANSI/BHMA A156.115 specifications. No special tools or custom preparation required standard hole saw installation applies to square or beveled doors opening in or out.
211L: The SFIC Prep Variant
If you searched "211l" the B-D211 variant accepts SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core). The standard D211 ships with a conventional cylinder. The B-D211 ships less core and is prepped for SFIC drop-in cores for facilities running an interchangeable core key system. Confirm which cylinder format your facility uses before ordering. The standard D211 with conventional cylinder includes two keys.
Yale D292 vs D211: Occupancy Indicator vs Standard Deadbolt
If you searched "yale d292" and landed here the D292 is a different function in the Yale/Accentra D Series. The D292 includes built-in occupancy indicators that display on both sides of the door showing "In Use" or "Vacant" status when the deadbolt is thrown. The D211 has no indicator. If your application requires visible occupancy status on restroom or consultation room doors, the D292 is the correct specification. If a standard key-and-thumbturn deadbolt without indicator is what you need, the D211 is the correct product.
Bolt Construction and Why the Hardened Pin Matters
The D211 deadbolt is 1-inch throw solid steel with a hardened, free-spinning steel pin insert. The free-spinning pin is the anti-saw feature. When a saw blade contacts the spinning pin during a cutting attack, the pin rotates with the blade rather than being cut through. The saw generates heat and friction but can't make progressive cuts through the spinning steel. This is a security feature that doesn't show in photos but matters significantly on doors subject to physical attack risk.
