In a conventional cylinder, housing and core are one piece. In an IC system, the housing and core are separate and the core removes with a control key.

The 2221 is housing only. It goes into the lock, the core drops in, and rekeying happens at the core level without touching the housing at all.

The 2160 Cam and Lock Compatibility
