About this item
The Accentra 2221 is a Large Format Interchangeable Core mortise cylinder housing. If you've been searching "2221", "2221z", "cus-2221", or "mortise housing"-the 2221 is the Yale/Accentra LFIC mortise cylinder housing that accepts 6-pin large format interchangeable cores. Accentra was formerly Yale, now part of ASSA ABLOY. The product is unchanged from the Yale catalog-same housing, same core compatibility, same cam, same dimensions. The 2221 ships less core, meaning no core is included. You supply or order the LFIC core separately.
What a Mortise Cylinder Housing Does
A mortise cylinder is a cylindrical plug assembly that mounts inside a mortise lock case, exit device, or other mortise-prepped hardware. The housing is the outer body-the brass shell with the cam attached-that threads or clips into the hardware. The core is the separate inner plug that contains the pin stacks and keyway. In a conventional cylinder, housing and core are one piece. In an IC system, the housing and core are separate and the core removes with a control key.
The 2221 is housing only. It goes into the lock, the core drops in, and rekeying happens at the core level without touching the housing at all.
LFIC vs SFIC: The 2221 Is Large Format
This is where most ordering errors happen. There are two IC formats in commercial hardware: LFIC (Large Format Interchangeable Core) and SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core). They are not interchangeable. An LFIC housing only accepts LFIC cores. An SFIC housing only accepts SFIC cores. The housings are different diameters, the cores are different sizes, and mixing formats won't work.
The Accentra 2221 is LFIC. The housing diameter is 1-3/8 inches. Standard length is 1-1/2 inches. It accepts Yale 6-pin large format interchangeable cores. If your facility runs SFIC, the correct Accentra housing is the K660 series, not the 2221. Confirm your core format before ordering.
CUS-2221 and Custom Configurations
If you searched "cus-2221"-the CUS prefix indicates a custom-specified version of the 2221 housing. Custom configurations typically involve non-standard cam specifications, alternate lengths, specific keyway markings, or institutional key system requirements. The standard 2221 ships with the 2160 cam, which is the straight Yale cam used across Accentra and Sargent mortise applications. If your project needs a different cam, it can be specified at order. The 2221Z designation is used in some distributor catalogs to indicate specific cam or finish configurations within the 2221 family-confirm the exact configuration you need before placing the order.
The 2160 Cam and Lock Compatibility
The 2221 ships standard with the 2160 cam-a straight cam used in Yale and Sargent mortise lock applications. This cam geometry engages the lock's driving mechanism when the key is turned. Different locks need different cam styles, lengths, and throw angles. If you're retrofitting the 2221 into a non-Accentra mortise lock, confirm the cam type required by that lock before ordering. Alternate cams are available at the factory level.
The housing also includes a 1/4-inch trim ring. Installation follows standard Yale mortise cylinder templating.
Yale to Accentra: Same Product, New Name
ASSA ABLOY rebranded Yale commercial hardware as Accentra. If your project spec sheet still shows "Yale 2221", you're ordering the same housing. The product number, dimensions, core compatibility, and cam all carry over directly from the Yale catalog.
