The T881 is part of Allegion's Falcon T Series Grade 1 platform, which has become the standard for high-traffic, heavy-abuse commercial applications. It's specified in new construction and retrofit projects equally, partly because it's non-handed and field reversible, which cuts installation time, and partly because it takes virtually any cylinder on the market.

What Makes the T Series Different from Standard Cylindrical Locks

Most Falcon lever locks at this price point use torsion springs, which fail at the bend points after years of cycling. The T881 uses compression springs inside the spring cages behind the rose. That single engineering decision is why lever sag is virtually eliminated even after millions of cycles. The trim is also through-bolted with two 10-32 screws coated with thread sealant, which prevents the rose from working loose under heavy use or vandalism attempts.

The T881 also includes Falcon's Pressure Release lever rotation feature as standard. When the outside lever is locked, it still moves freely under force rather than transmitting stress to internal components. That protects the chassis from damage during forced entry attempts, which is a real durability advantage in institutional settings.

How the Fail Secure Function Works

This is a storeroom function electric lock: the deadlocking latch bolt is operated by the inside lever at all times, no exceptions. The outside lever does nothing until it receives a 24V DC signal, at which point it unlocks and the latch can be retracted from either side. When the outside lever is locked, the latch bolt can still be retracted by a key in the outside cylinder. Fail secure means that a power failure, tripped breaker, or cut wire defaults the door to locked, which is the correct behavior for storerooms, server rooms, restricted areas, and controlled access points in commercial buildings.

The T881 ships in four lever styles: Avalon (A), Dane (D), Quantum (Q), and Latitude (LAT). All levers are solid pressure-cast zinc with a finish matched to mating parts. Roses are wrought brass or bronze over steel through-bolted inserts. Finish options are 605 Bright Brass, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 622 Matte Black, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome, and 643e Aged Bronze. Split finishes are available when inside and outside trim need to differ. All lever designs meet federal ADA and state disability access requirements.

IC Core Compatibility

The T881 accepts standard conventional cylinders, Small Format Interchangeable Cores (SFIC), and Schlage Full Size Interchangeable Cores (FSIC). Compatible core brands include Arrow, Best, Corbin Russwin, Medeco, Medeco Keymark, Medeco 32 Series, Peaks (Kaba), Primus (Schlage), Sargent, Schlage, and Yale. Cylinder assemblies are removable without full disassembly, making re-keying fast.
