Adams Rite 4300-30 Steel Hawk Electrified Deadlatch - 1-1/8" Backset

The Adams Rite 4300-30 is the 1-1/8" backset configuration of the Steel Hawk eLatch, combining a mechanical deadlock with full electrified access control capability in the same unit. Inside egress is always mechanical: any handle or paddle device retracts the latchbolt without power. Outside entry is controlled by key, access control signal, or both simultaneously. The lock works within standard aluminum entrance door preparations without stile modification and drops directly into existing MS Deadlock, 4500 Series, and 4900 Series door preps.

How the 4300-30 eLatch Works

From outside, the latchbolt is released one of two ways: inserting a key in the mortise cylinder (not included) to mechanically retract the latch, or applying voltage from an access control panel to electrically retract the spring-loaded latchbolt. Most installations use both, with the cylinder providing mechanical override when power is unavailable. From inside, any handle or paddle device always retracts the latch regardless of electrical state. There's no inside keying requirement and no lockout risk on the egress side.

The 4300 is rated for continuous duty, which means the solenoid can remain energized without overheating or degrading for timed applications, door propping scenarios, or any access control configuration where the lock stays released for extended periods.

Anti-Loiding Auxiliary Bolt

The 4300-30 includes a solid metal auxiliary bolt that automatically deadlocks the spring-loaded latchbolt when the door closes. This auxiliary bolt is what prevents loiding: the process of using a credit card, thin tool, or case knife to press the latchbolt back and open the door without a key or signal. Without an auxiliary deadlocking bolt, spring latch deadlatches can be opened in seconds using this method. The auxiliary bolt engages automatically on door close and disengages when either the cylinder, electric signal, or inside operator retracts the latch. No manual operation required.

Strike Options and What Each One Means

Three strike configurations are available at time of order. Model 101 includes the 4304 surface-mount strike, which requires no cut in the door frame and works for retrofits where modifying the jamb isn't feasible. Model 201 includes the 4901 mortised flush strike for flat and standard jamb applications where a clean recessed appearance is required. Model 202 includes the 4901 mortised strike with radius profile for pairs of doors where the stile geometry requires the radius cut. Select at time of order. Strike upgrades after purchase require separate ordering.

Backset Variants in the 4300 Series

The 4300-30 (1-1/8" backset) is the standard configuration for most aluminum storefront door preps. The 4300-20 covers 31/32" backset applications. The 4300-40 covers 1-1/2" backset. If your door prep measurement differs from 1-1/8", confirm the backset before ordering. Backset measurement is taken from the edge of the door to the center of the cylinder hole.
