About this item
The BEST 1W7B2626 is an electric switch lock with a key from BEST's W Series. It is meant to manage electrical circuits in commercial panels, access control systems, lift controls and industrial machines where only authorised people should be able to turn the circuit on or off. It uses a single SPDT configuration (Single Pole Double Throw) and allows key removal only at the 12 o'clock position. It's a dormakaba Group product. American Locksets is an authorized BEST dealer.
What SPDT Means and How This Switch Works
SPDT stands for Single Pole Double Throw. The switch has one common terminal (C) and two switched outputs: Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC). In the default state, the common terminal connects to the NC output. When the key is turned to the active position, the common terminal switches to the NO output while the NC side opens.
In plain terms: this one switch can simultaneously turn one circuit on while turning another off. That's why SPDT is specified for applications like elevator fire recall controls, security system arm/disarm stations, access control relay switching, and emergency equipment enable/disable panels where you need both circuit states controlled by a single keyed action.
Key Position 2 at 12 O'Clock: What It Controls
Key position numbering in the BEST W Series indicates where on the cylinder the key removal is permitted. On the 1W7B2626, the key can only be removed when the cylinder is in the 12 o'clock position. The key cannot be withdrawn in any other rotational position.
This is a critical security feature. It means the switch stays in whatever state you leave it unless the operator has the key. There's no way to rotate the cylinder to a different state without the key, and there's no way to walk away without the cylinder sitting in the designated removal position. For panels that need to stay in a specific circuit state — access enabled, machine running, alarm disarmed — this prevents unauthorized tampering between authorized service events.
The 1W7B1626 uses the same SPDT single switch configuration but places key removal at the 2 o'clock position instead. Selection depends on your panel layout and which physical orientation places the key withdrawal in a convenient service position.
Lock Body Construction
The Double D cylinder body prevents the unit from slipping or rotating inside the mounting hole after installation. Standard round mounting holes allow rotational movement under repeated torque; the Double D profile locks the cylinder body in the fixed orientation regardless of how many times the key is turned.
All W Series switch locks use screw terminals for field wiring (with the exception of the 1W7A1 model). Screw terminals allow direct wire connection without soldering, simplify replacement, and let maintenance personnel rewire without specialized tools.
BEST Interchangeable Core Compatibility
The 1W7B2626 accepts BEST Interchangeable Core (IC) cylinders, which integrates this switch lock into any existing BEST keying system. That means the same master key that opens mechanical BEST-keyed hardware in the facility can control this switch lock without a separate key. IC cores can be ordered and swapped in the field without removing the switch from the panel. For facilities already running BEST key systems, this eliminates the need to manage a separate key for electrical panel access.
Certifications and Finish
All BEST W Series switch locks carry UL recognition or UL listing. Finish is 626 Satin Chrome, the standard architectural satin chrome finish used across BEST hardware lines. Additional W Series configurations available for projects requiring dual switches (1W7J2626), toggle switch operation (1W7L2626, 1W7D2626), triple pole (1W7E2626), or quad switch (1W7R4626).
