The Cal-Royal CGN05 is a Grade 1 commercial cylindrical storeroom lock from the Cal-Royal Genesys Series Grade 1 platform, the GN Lever Style family Cal-Royal built for high-traffic commercial and institutional openings: schools, healthcare facilities, multi-family buildings, government offices, and any commercial space that needs heavy-duty security at a value-engineered price below the major brands. The CGN05 carries ANSI function F86 (storeroom). The deadlocking latchbolt is operated by key from the outside lever or by rotating the inside lever for free egress. The outside lever is always fixed; it does not retract the latch by hand and cannot be unlocked by the inside push button or thumbturn. What ANSI F86 Storeroom Function Means
Storeroom (F86) is one of the most-specified ANSI functions on the commercial side because it is simple, secure, and code-compliant. Outside lever stays rigid until a key turns the cylinder. The key retracts the latch and the lever turns. Release the key, and the outside lever locks again automatically. The inside lever is always free, so anyone inside can exit without a key, which is what makes this an ANSI Grade 1 code-compliant function for occupied rooms. Why the CLUTCH System Matters
The Genesys series ships with Cal-Royal's CLUTCH free-turning handle system. When the outside lever is locked and someone tries to force it by hanging body weight on the handle or twisting hard, the CLUTCH allows the handle to spin freely instead of transferring force into the chassis. That single feature eliminates the most common failure mode for commercial cylindrical locks: snapped lever spindles and stripped chassis from vandalism. Combined with the key-removable outside lever (no need to disassemble the chassis to swap a damaged or rekeyed lever) and concealed mounting screws (no exposed Phillips heads for drill attacks), the CGN05 is built to survive abusive applications.
