About this item
The Cal-Royal JHIL30 is a single locking interconnected lever lock with an integrated deadbolt and latch assembly, ANSI function F95. If you've been searching "cal royal interconnected lock" or "interconnected door lock reversible passage lever" -this is it. An interconnected lock combines a deadbolt and a latch in a single housing where both can be retracted simultaneously by a single inside lever turn. That's the defining feature: anyone inside can grip the lever and both the deadbolt and the latch retract at once, making exit immediate regardless of whether the deadbolt was locked.
What Single Locking Means vs Double Locking
Single locking means there's one keyed locking point -the deadbolt. From outside, a key in the cylinder throws or retracts the 1-inch deadbolt. From inside, a thumbturn does the same. The latch operates independently and is always retractable by lever from either side. Double locking interconnected locks add a second keyed function where the outside lever itself can be locked. The JHIL30 single locking version doesn't lock the outside lever -the lever always retracts the latch from either side. This is the right function for entrance doors where you need a deadbolt for security but want both levers to always be free for normal passage without the key.
ANSI F95: What Happens at the Door
ANSI function F95 is the interconnected entrance configuration. Deadbolt is thrown and retracted by key from outside or by thumbturn inside. Latch bolt retracts from either side by lever. The critical feature is simultaneous retraction: turning the inside lever retracts both the latch and the deadbolt at the same time with a single motion. No need to turn the thumbturn first. This panic-proof exit behavior is why interconnected locks are specified for apartment entrance doors, hotel rooms, and any residential or light commercial opening where a deadbolt is needed but a secure, single-motion inside exit is code-required.
JHIL Model Code and Bore Configuration
JHIL identifies the lever design -J-HIL is a specific Cal-Royal lever trim style in the interconnected (HIL) housing. The 30 suffix designates this as the standard bore configuration (4-inch center-to-center between upper and lower bore holes). Cal-Royal also makes a version for doors with 5-1/2-inch center-to-center bore spacing (the JHILDOV30). If your door has existing bore holes from a previous interconnected lock, confirm which center-to-center spacing you have before ordering -4-inch and 5-1/2-inch are not interchangeable.
Cylinder, Keyways, and Rekeying
The JHIL30 uses a 6-pin solid brass cylinder with standard "C" keyway -compatible with Schlage C, and cross-references to Schlage E, Russwin D1-2-3-4, Corbin 59/60, Sargent LA-LB-LC, Falcon/Weiser E, Arrow A, and Yale 8/GA keyways. The lever is key-removable: the outside lever comes off without tools, giving direct access to the cylinder for rekeying or cylinder replacement. Optional interchangeable core configurations are available -the ICSCJHIL30 accepts Schlage LFIC cores, and the ICJHILROC30 accepts BEST, Falcon, and Arrow SFIC cores.
