This is the functional distinction that makes the ML2055 the correct specification for classroom doors. The entrance function (ML2051 ANSI F04) uses a push-button toggle on the inside. Locking that door from the corridor requires entering the classroom, engaging the toggle, and leaving. The classroom function (ML2055) eliminates that exposure. How ANSI F05 Classroom Function Works

From the corridor (outside), the lever is normally free. Students and staff enter without a key during operating hours. When the teacher inserts a key from the outside and turns it, the outside lever locks. The door cannot be opened from outside without a key. From inside, the lever is always free regardless of the locked state outside. Students can exit at any time. The outside lever stays locked until a key from the corridor unlocks it. The key operates the lock from outside only, which is the critical distinction from an entrance function toggle that requires inside operation.

Important Specification Note

The ML2055 is not available with an occupancy indicator. If your specification calls for an occupied/vacant indicator on the classroom door, specify ML2003 instead. The ML2055 is the standard classroom function without indicator capability.

The ML2055 ships standard with a conventional 6-pin L4 keyway cylinder.
