About this item
The Corbin Russwin N9905ET is a fail secure electrically controlled lever trim for the ED5000 Series exit device. It adds electronic access control capability to an installed Corbin Russwin ED5000 panic device, allowing an access control panel, card reader, or keypad to lock and unlock the outside lever from the exterior while maintaining free mechanical egress from the interior at all times.
Corbin Russwin ED5000 Electrically Controlled Trim: Fail Secure Operation
Fail secure means the outside lever is locked when power is removed and unlocked when power is applied. When the access control system sends voltage to the trim, the lever engages the latch mechanism and allows entry. When power is cut, by a power outage, a panel fault, or a deliberate lockdown command, the outside lever returns to its locked freewheeling state and exterior access is denied. This is the correct specification for server rooms, pharmaceutical storage, secured corridors, and perimeter entries where an uncontrolled power loss event must not create an unsecured opening.
The N9905ET lever freewheels when locked. Forced rotation of the lever under a locked state produces no mechanical output and no damage to the trim or exit device. Key override via the mortise cylinder is available when cylinder access is required independent of the access control system.

N9905 vs. N9903: Fail Secure or Fail Safe
The N9905ET is fail secure. Its counterpart, the N9903, is fail safe (lever unlocked when power is off, locked when power is on), which is the correct choice for fire egress doors, stairwells, and any opening that must release automatically during a fire alarm event. If the opening requires free passage on power loss rather than secured passage, the N9903 is the correct trim. Confirm the fail mode with the access control system integrator before ordering.
