The "950" in VT950ET is the function code: dummy trim, pull only. No cylinder position, no lever connection to the exit device latch mechanism. The pull handle provides a grip surface from the outside for pushing or pulling the door when the device is dogged. It does not retract any latch, does not provide key access, and does not interact with the exit device mechanism from outside in any way. This is the correct specification when:

The opening is a secondary exit with no outside re-entry needed. The outside pull is needed for aesthetic and ergonomic reasons when dogged but no secured outside entry is required. Outside access is handled through an adjacent door and this opening needs only egress function.

If the opening requires outside key entry, cylinder dogging, or lever operation, the VT950ET is the wrong trim.
