About this item

If you're specifying electronic locks for a multifamily apartment building, senior living community, or student housing property and you need a mortise format, the dormakaba 79T1011KF30-626 is worth looking at carefully. It's part of the 79 Series, originally developed under the Ilco brand before the Dorma and Kaba companies merged in 2015 to form dormakaba. If you've been searching "dorma mortise lockset" or "dorma mortise lock" looking for this product, this is it -the product line continues under the dormakaba name with the same platform.

What the Model Code Tells You

The T in 79T identifies the lock mode as Toggle. The KF identifies the reader type as Keycard plus Fob -it reads both RFID keycards and key fobs. The 30 means this unit ships without Bluetooth Low Energy, running as a standalone unit. The 626 is the finish: Satin Chrome. If you need BLE for mobile credential operation, that's a different model suffix. If you're replacing an existing dormakaba 79 Series lock in a property already running this platform, confirm these suffix codes match your current setup before ordering.

How Toggle Mode Works and Why Properties Use It

Toggle mode is the defining operational choice on this lock. When a resident taps a valid credential to the reader, the door unlocks. Tap again and it re-locks. The inside thumbturn also toggles the locked or unlocked state without needing a credential. That's the practical difference from Storeroom mode, where the outside is always locked. Toggle gives residents real control of their unit door from inside -lock it from inside when you want it secure, leave it unlocked when you're moving things in or expecting deliveries. It also eliminates lockouts, because you can't accidentally lock yourself into a state you can't reverse without a card.

The Clutch Mechanism: What It Does

The clutch is what makes this lock function under attempted forced entry. When no valid credential has been presented, the outside lever rotates freely without engaging the latch mechanism. Someone trying to force entry by torquing the lever gets nothing because the lever isn't connected to anything until an authorized tap releases the clutch. This also means the lever won't break under repeated abuse -the clutch absorbs the force rather than transmitting it into the lock body. It's ADA compliant as well, because the lever can be pushed freely in either direction without resistance, meeting the force requirements for accessible hardware.

RFID Credentials and Battery Life

The built-in reader accepts keycard and fob credentials using ISO 14443, MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus, and MIFARE Ultralight C formats -which covers the credential types used across most multifamily access management platforms. Credential expiry is configurable from one hour up to seven years, which gives property managers full control over contractor, vendor, and guest access without having to manually delete codes. The lock runs on three AA batteries in the front housing with a lifespan of approximately 120,000 openings, roughly two to three years at standard occupancy rates. A low battery indicator alerts staff before failure.

Programming and audit trail downloads are handled via an infrared communications link. The lock is compatible with dormakaba's RezShield and Community access management software platforms.
