About this item
The Dormakaba E-Plex 2000, also known as the Kaba E-Plex 2000, is a standalone electronic keypad cylindrical lock that stores 100 user PIN codes directly on the lock, tracks the 1,000 most recent access events, and runs on 3 AA batteries for up to 100,000 cycles without any wired connection to a network or access control panel. The E2031BLL is the SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) prep configuration, which means the lock housing is machined to accept a BEST-compatible 6 or 7 pin interchangeable core. The core is not included. You order this model when the facility already runs a BEST IC master key program and needs to integrate the E-Plex 2000 into that existing keying system.
Three operation modes are available: PIN access (standard mode: enter code, door unlocks for a timed cycle), Passage (outside lever operates freely, used during open hours), and Lockout (all access denied, emergency security mode). Programming is done at the keypad without any computer or software. The optional E-Plex software and M-Unit kit are available separately for downloading and viewing the 1,000-event audit trail. What SFIC Means on the E2031BLL
SFIC stands for Small Format Interchangeable Core. It's a keying technology originated by BEST Access Systems where the cylinder's keying mechanism is a removable "core" that can be pulled out and replaced using a control key, without disassembling the lock or removing it from the door. A single control key removes the core from any compatible housing in seconds. This allows a facility manager to rekey a door in the field instantly by swapping the core, rather than calling a locksmith or replacing the cylinder.
The E2031BLL houses the SFIC prep inside the lock body. When you want mechanical key override on this E-Plex 2000, you insert a BEST-compatible IC core (6-pin or 7-pin, sold separately) into the prepared housing. A key in that core provides emergency mechanical entry even if the battery is dead or the keypad fails. "Less core" means the housing is there, ready to accept a core, but no core comes in the box.

E2031BLL vs. E2031LL vs. E2031XSLL
Three key override configurations are available in the E-Plex 2000 cylindrical series. The E2031LL has no key override at all: electronic access only, no mechanical backup. The E2031BLL (this product) has an SFIC prep for BEST-compatible IC core (less core, order separately): the most flexible key override for facilities with existing IC programs. The E2031XSLL includes a factory-installed Schlage C keyway conventional cylinder with a keyed-in-like (KIL) cylinder: mechanical key override included, no IC program required. Select based on whether the facility runs an IC master key program (BLL), a Schlage C program (XSLL), or doesn't need key override at all (LL).
