About this item
The Dormakaba QTL240-E is the privacy function in the QTL200 Series tubular lever lock line. It uses ANSI F76B, the turn-button variant of the standard privacy function. The difference between F76 (push-button) and F76B (turn-button) is how the inside button engages. A push-button locks with a single press and can be triggered accidentally by a forearm, a bag, or anything that contacts the inside trim plate. A turn-button requires a deliberate rotation to engage. You twist it to lock; you don't accidentally twist it. This makes the QTL240 a more reliable privacy specification for busy restrooms, healthcare patient rooms, and hotel rooms where accidental lockouts create maintenance calls and embarrassing situations for occupants.
The "E" is the Sierra lever style. The "626" is Satin Chrome. The "240" is the function code in the QTL200 Series family. which makes it the price-appropriate specification for light commercial interior privacy applications where Grade 1 heavy-duty construction isn't required and budget is a real consideration. ANSI F76B Turn-Button Privacy: All Operating States
State one (button disengaged): Both levers operate the latch freely. Normal passage in both directions.
State two (button turned, locked): Outside lever locks rigid. Entry from outside is not possible by lever. Inside lever remains free for immediate egress at all times regardless of button state.
State three (inside lever releases button): Turning the inside lever for egress simultaneously disengages the turn-button. The door returns to the unlocked passage state automatically after exit.
State four (emergency outside release): A standard small screwdriver or thin tool inserted into the outside slot and rotated releases the turn-button for emergency outside access. No key required.

Tubular Lock vs. Cylindrical Lock: Which Is the QTL240?
The QTL200 Series is Dormakaba's tubular lock line. "Tubular" in this context describes the internal latch mechanism design and the overall profile of the lock body, which is more compact than the standard cylindrical (QCL) series. Both types are installed in a standard 2-1/8" cross-bore door preparation. The QTL200 is positioned as a lighter-duty, lower-cost alternative to the QCL200 Series at the same Grade 2 certification level. For buyers searching "tubular knob lock brand" who need a commercial tubular lever privacy lock: Dormakaba's QTL240-E is the specification. It's lever style, not knob, which is the standard for ADA-compliant commercial installations. Knob-style tubular locks are typically residential and are not ADA compliant.
